Job description
Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, this exciting opportunity would be well suited for an enthusiastic, creative and collaborative self-starter who thrives in an environment of innovation and driving change through the implementation of best in class Total Rewards Practices.
The Total Rewards Specialist will play a key role in providing specialized services within the Total Rewards department included but not limited to supporting the administration of HRIS transactional activities, group benefits, HOOPP pension plan, leaves and LTD / STD plans.
This position is the first point of contact for all benefits and pension related matters. The TR Specialist is responsible for quality and administrative effectiveness with respect to the benefit plans, leaves, HRIS, Pension Plan administration, and works in accordance with the collective agreements and policies while ensuring a positive client experience.
- Manage employee life cycle including reviewing, entering and validating employee data into various HR Systems, including but not limited to processing transfers, terminations, salary adjustments, updates to personal information, etc.
- Administers the Group Insurance benefits and pension plan (HOOPP) for all eligible employee groups maintaining accurate data in the external Sun Life Plan Sponsor Information System and HOOPP Portal
- Responsible for the administration and processing of STD / LTD including monitoring STD banks, providing clarification and guidance to employees on the interpretation of sick plans for unionized employees and non-union employees as per specific sick plans
- Respond to all inquiries from manager, employee, retirees on all matters related to TR including
- Create and maintain employee files in accordance with policies and procedures
- Responsible for data integrity of employee information entered in Meditech
- Complete biweekly, monthly and yearly audits
- Participate in TR related grievances
- Act as an SME with TR related items including but not limited to maintain benefit summary updates, provide education to HR team members on benefits, legislation changes, etc.
- Identify successes and opportunities for improvement
- Participate and complete various Total Reward surveys (Benefits) and provide reports as required
- Update and maintain various Total Reward spreadsheets as well as produce reports and support system updates as required
- Works collaboratively with other departments in Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, LR and Finance (Payroll)
- Assist and support various Total Reward Projects as required
Job qualifications
- Three-year Diploma / Degree Human Resources Management from an accredited educational institution or equivalent recent and related training and experience may also be considered
- CHRP / CHRL designation preferred
- HRPA membership preferred
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent and related Human Resources experience preferably working within a unionized healthcare environment with the emphasis on HRIS, employee benefits, pension experience
- Advanced technical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- HRIS experience (Meditech and / or MediHR) an asset
- Demonstrated understanding of employment legislation and collective agreement administration
- Superior organization and problem-solving skills, and ability to prioritize competing tasks
- Past experience working in an HRIS and / or payroll system preferred
- Superior work ethic, professionalism, resourcefulness, dependability, reliability and diplomacy
- Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task, as well as commitment to meeting deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with varying levels of employees and to provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders
- Ability to make decisions, exercise judgment and take initiative in dealing with confidential information and / or in responding to inquiries
- Flexible with ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multitasking and dynamic environment
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with varying levels of employees and to provide excellent customer service
- Experience in handling sensitive, confidential information
- Strong administrative and data management skills

Hours : Currently days (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
