About the Role
The CM Specialist role is responsible for the Configuration Management (CM) activities, which ensure that all CM functions relative to identification, configuration change, status accounting and audits are maintained in accordance with contractual requirements, CM practices, and QA standards.
The CM Specialist must be facilitating all CM boards such as ECA (Enterprise Change Assessment), CRB (Change Review Board) and CIB (Change Implementation Board) as required.
The CM specialist must be capable of supporting the analysis of a proposed Enterprise Change Request (ECR), and the implementation of approved ECRs to be incorporated into the product.
Primary Responsibilities
Review proposed changes (ECRs) and request for variances (RFVs), identify affected projects / customers and ensure contractual requirements for configuration are fulfilled;
collaborate with Program Management Office to identify customers with special configuration requirements. When required, ensure adequate information is available for customer review and approval
Perform impact analysis ensuring that all affected items are fully identified and listed on the ECR / CIM (Change Impact Matrix);
Assign proper ECR category and class of change
Ensure the proposed changes are fully developed & assessed from a CM perspective (i.e. interchangeability, part number control, etc.
and verify that the details populated are clear, concise, and valid while meeting all defined requirements
- Schedule ECA, CRB and CIB meetings as required; prepare and distribute agenda prior to meetings; record and distribute meeting minutes / actions post meeting
- Facilitate ECA meetings; Ensure there is no mixed effectivity, and business impact, change effectivity, final material disposition, final cost of the change, etc.
are appropriately captured in each ECR for further proceedings
- Facilitate CRB meetings; Prepare ECRs for CRB ensuring sufficient information (benefits vs cost vs implementation) is available to CRB members to make an adequate business decision
- Compile a detailed change implementation plan and schedule for approved ECRs
- Facilitate the CIB meeting to review change implementation plans and schedules with the cross-functional team in order to identify and quantify risks to schedule, and mitigate the identified risks with CIB members
- Audit the change packages to assure continuity between the old and new datasets, and for releasing the qualified datasets
- Ensure accurate traceability of product configurations, and revise As-Built records based on change effectivity
- Assess requests for variances (RFVs) to ensure that the departure from the approved configuration is clearly captured, CM requirements are fulfilled, and affected datasets & builds are appropriately identified;
approve RFVs that meet CM requirements for further processing
- Apply RFVs that are approved by designated reviewers to As-Built records
- Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies related to serialization between PLM and ERP
- Ensure regular interface with internal customers to coordinate priorities, issue resolution or to provide guidance on CM processes and concepts;
coordinate / chair meetings as required
- Assist with the CM procedures maintenance; Support the FCA / PCA activities as required
- Support the development / implementation of the departmental projects / goals
- Other duties as required
Required Capabilities
- An effective communicator, able to articulate complex solutions clearly and concisely;
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation, product structures, and terminology;
- Ability to create and manage detailed project schedules;
- Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information with a CM mind set, handling deviations from standard methods and resolving difficulties;

- Working knowledge of automated CM tools (PLM or ERP applications);
Desired Education and Experiences
- Requires proficient knowledge of job area. May have practical knowledge of project management.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience in Configuration Management, or
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience in Configuration Management, or
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience in Configuration Management
- Complete understanding and application of Configuration Management functions, and principles (CM Industry standard EIA-649, ISO10007 etc.);
- CMII or CMPIC certification or other CM related Certification an asset;
- Ability to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Program clearance
