Basic Function
Petro Canada Lubricants Inc, (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a Team Leader, GSC Engineering and Maintenance. Reporting to the Director, Global Supply Chain Manufacturing Operations, the Team Leader will be responsible for providing overall direction and leadership to the Engineering & Maintenance teams.
In addition, ensuring equipment is returned to Operations at the expected time and managing the execution of engineering requirements to support maintenance
Job Duties
- Demonstrate strong direct and non-authoritative leadership skills and a commitment to teamwork & empowerment to create an environment of opportunity and growth
- Geographical and capital project scope includes all GSC operated facilities and assets (Mississauga, Edmonton, Council Bluffs, Joshua, Winnipeg, Moncton, Pier 18, etc.)
- Stewardship of GSC capital plan and capital Committee preparation regarding business case estimates for capital spend
- Front end scoping of engineering projects for GSC with stakeholders
- Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with government Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and Company Health & Safety procedures
- Monitor the maintenance program for Lubeplex and National Warehouse and revise accordingly to ensure a reliability focus
- Work with all GSC sites to ensure consistency in capital & maintenance practices
- Provide for a productive work environment by ensuring Company policies / procedures and the Collective Agreement are administered in a fair and consistent manner
- Ensuring work orders for production and logistics are executed safely. The close adherence to PCLI safety policies and procedures along with the effective use of proactive safety programs, Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) and Safe Work Attitudes and Practices activities are a key component of achieving this.
Auditing of compliance, identification of improvement opportunities and leadership to drive improvements is a key output
- Ensuring Maintenance workforce and Direct Reports are educated / competent to complete the work assigned to them. Development of occupational workforce competency requirements within the framework of a performance-based progression system, continued skill development for senior workforce and assessment of the effectiveness of training programs is a key output.
- Ensuring approved work is completed efficiently. Timely identification and resolution of barriers is a key element of achieving this.
Identifying work delays and opportunities to improve job plans through the effective use of delay codes and feedback at update meetings.
Developing and implementing improvement action plans is a key output
- Focus on preventative maintenance & safety work orders
- Ensuring all areas are using SAP for specifications and work details
- Establishes key performance indicators, stewardship and auditing of the work processes and course correction is a key output
- Ensuring an effective Ready for Operations (RFO) process for completed work. Identification of improvement opportunities and continuous improvement through the use of existing tools to manage change within SAP
- Implement 5S practices in the shop to improve workplace efficiency and productivity by creating a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Work with Operation to assist introduction of TPM (total productive maintenance)
- Performance management hourly workforce, by consistently applying the CBA. Coaching for consistent application by Supervisors is a key supporting activity.
Monthly monitoring of hourly absenteeism trends and application of the absenteeism policy
- Performance stewardship and the development of continuous improvement plans for immediate function and related processes / procedures

Experience
- Minimum 5 years management / supervisory experience in a maintenance environment
- Experience in Plant, Project and Reliability engineering. Front line shutdown supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver timely and effective results while adhering to budgetary and scheduling constraints
- Solid computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and Microsoft Project
- Strong working knowledge of SAP
- Expert knowledge of manufacturing equipment and capabilities (lubricant blending, process control, process equipment, process piping network) This knowledge is frequently relied upon for detailed new-business feasibility studies and CAPEX optimization.
Knowledge of fillers, packaging equipment, rotating equipment, vessels and performance techniques are an asset.
Functional knowledge of other refinery operations, and impact of / on Lubeplex. (Off-Sites, Strong working knowledge of H&S Regulations , Environmental regulations, TLM policy, ISO / QS quality standards, ISO 14001 environmental standards, Waste Water Treatment Facility, Utility Systems and Process Units)
Education Level
- Industrial Mechanic / Millwright or Technical Certificate or an Engineering Degree
- Red Seal Certificate of Qualification is preferred

Supervisory / Managerial Responsibility
Supervisory responsibilities for an overall Maintenance team inclusive of both union and non-unionized employees (Maintenance coordinator, Supervisors and Industrial Mechanics).
Work Conditions
High degree of activity high stress when addressing emergency and break-in activities, pressure from other CFT’s competing for limited resources.
50% / 50% office / plant split.
The Lubes Centre is a 24 / 7 operation that is safety-sensitive and potentially hazardous. The workforce consists of many craft and professional disciplines within PCLI and a large contracted maintenance service provider.
Excess hours are required to be worked during Turnaround (Shutdown / Start-up) or Urgent / Emergency Situations. High level of stress associated with meeting deadline and effectively handling many concurrent running tasks as well as resolving issues on the run
