The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus.
The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.

Reports to : AMS Council
Employee status : Temporary, Full-time, Salaried
Length of term : November 2024 April 30, 2025
Hours per week : 37.5
Salary : $44,547.60 per annum (prorated)
Position Purpose
The Interim Vice President, Finance is responsible for leading the Finance portfolio and representing the student body. This position will be managed by the AMS President, who manages the day-to-day activities of the Executive as a whole to ensure the fulfillment of their duties and responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare or cause to be prepared the financial statements of the Society, including a statement of source and application of funds, for presentation to the annual general meeting;
- Be responsible for monitoring the financial affairs of the Society, branch societies and subsidiary organizations, and informing delinquent organizations of their obligations and, with the approval of Council, taking whatever action may be necessary to rectify any such deficits;
- Be responsible for all monies received and disbursed by the Society and shall keep or cause to be kept all bills, receipts and vouchers;
- Approve function control reports, as defined by the Code, submitted by any subsidiary organization of the Society which requires funds from the Society other than those funds in the subsidiary organization’s account with the Society;
- Prepare the budget in accordance with Bylaw 11
- Manage the VP Finance staff
- Works with the AMS mission statement and values
- Other duties as outlined in AMS Code and Bylaws, and as assigned by Council or the Executive Committee from time to time
Qualifications and Experience
- Must be a currently registered student at UBC Vancouver or one of its affiliated colleges
- Knowledge of AMS club and constituencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and detail orientated
- Comfort in working in a technical environment
- Professional conduct
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, Dynamics GP, IIS
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of AMS fiscal procedures and policies is an asset
- Advanced knowledge of computer and technological skills
