TUTOR & ACADEMIC COACH (CASUAL)
ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTRE
NorQuesters are difference makers, and we’re searching for someone who can apply learning theory, universal design principles, and foundational knowledge from the Alberta K-12 curriculum to support learner success.
Working one-on-one with foundational and post-secondary learners, including those with experience of disability and those who have English as an additional language, Tutor-Coaches support the academic progress of learners by compassionately meeting them where they are at and collaborating with Instructional Faculty and the broader Student Services team to ensure wrap-around academic support.
Tutoring & Academic Coaching Services provides in-person and online learning support to students in all NorQuest courses and programs, inclusive of English, Math, Science, Health Sciences, Business, and more.
You will have the opportunity to support learners in your subject areas of expertise, learn new curriculum, and contribute to an innovative team, as we transform our services to meet the college’s strategic goals and work towards our commitment to Indigenization, decolonization and becoming an anti-racist organization.
This is a casual position to June 2024 with opportunities for Saturday and weekday shifts. Possibility of extension.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Provide content tutoring and academic skill development coaching to learners, both in-person and online
- Individualize learning strategies using a strengths-based approach
- Provide a safe, inclusive, and holistic learning experience for all students.
- Work with Learner Centre staff (Library, Computer Commons and Accessibility Services) to co-manage the Learner Centre space and make appropriate referrals to other service areas
- Contribute to the evolution and innovation of educational best practices that support academic resilience and a positive learner experience
- Engage in internal professional development opportunities
- Capture accurate usage metrics for the purposes of decision-making and reporting.
WHAT YOU BRING
A degree in Education (Bachelor's or Graduate level) and a Master's Degree (or working towards completion of a Master’s degree) are required.
Equivalent education and related experience may also be considered.
Content expertise is required in one or more of the following : English (inclusive of foundational language learning and academic writing), Math and Sciences (with ability to apply foundational knowledge to post-secondary courses;
e.g. basic Business and Health program math and sciences)
- Applied knowledge of learning theory; expertise and experience with Universal Design or differentiated learning is required
- 2+ years' directly related experience working with diverse learners in an educational setting, especially those who have English as an additional language and those with experience of disability.

SALARY : $32.21 - $41.83 / hour reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience, plus 11.2% in lieu of vacation.
