Location : This position will be based out of our Winnipeg or Toronto Office.

Type : This is a Part-Time position.

The opportunity :

Reporting to the Lead Analyst, Operations, The Junior Analyst, Internal Controls will assist in developing and implementing internal control policies and procedures.

The incumbent will support compliance monitoring and strive for standardization across business processes. The Junior Analyst, Internal Controls will collaborate with various stakeholders in enhancing internal control effectiveness and efficiency in a dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities include :

Providing support in conducting audits of accounts related to operational controls including fees, scheduled, and ad-hoc reporting while ensuring adherence to compliance standards and accuracy in financial records.

Utilizing analytical skills to examine transactional data within accounts, identifying any suspicious or unusual activities, and taking appropriate steps to escalate and propose corrective measures for resolution.

Monitoring financial transactions occurring in corporate accounts, accurately maintaining detailed records, and obtaining necessary approvals based on predefined threshold limits.

Estimating error amounts associated with trade corrections to facilitate accurate reporting and resolution of discrepancies.

Taking lead in initiating and processing corrective tickets for trade corrections, employing suitable procedures tailored to the security type to rectify discrepancies promptly and effectively.

Facilitating the submission of iMOST for NBIN processing as required.

Executing daily uploads and reversal processes of transfer fees, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of fee transactions.

Preparing comprehensive monthly reports on transfer fees for transitioning IA teams, providing valuable insights and facilitating a smooth transition process.

Collaborating with internal teams to assist in the design, documentation, and monitoring of internal control frameworks while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.

Demonstrating a keen interest in leveraging technology to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls.

Exploring innovative solutions and best practices to drive continuous improvement.

Performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess :

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Information Technology, or similar field of study.
  • A minimum of 1-2+ years of experience in a software support environment, preferably with exposure to financial technology solutions.
  • Experience working with a discretionary Portfolio Manager considered an asset. Previous operations experience is an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills is essential for this role.
  • Proficiency with the MSOffice suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Proven data mining experience including basic programming acumen is a strong asset.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with internal controls or projects focused on cost effectiveness is an asset.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles including debit and credit entries, and journaling is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of the wealth management sector, including security types, trading practices, and financial instruments is an asset.

An analytical and logical thinker with a strong problem-solving skills, capable of diagnosing issues and proposing effective solutions.

Exceptional multitasking skills under tight deadlines, and an ability to adapt numerous activities with varying priorities.

Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks undertaken.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration within cross-functional teams.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, capable of presenting internal control and risk matters in a clear and understandable manner across various organizational levels.

Passionate about delivering exceptional advisor service, with an engaging personality and a strong commitment to supporting industry professionals.

An ability to adapt to evolving needs within Operations and Investment Advisor (IA) teams, embracing changing priorities with flexibility.

Conditions of employment :

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to travel within Canada 0-5% of the time.
