My client is a niche environmental consulting firm focused on the areas of regulatory affairs and permitting, Indigenous engagement and relationship building, water stewardship, closure and reclamation planning, compliance and environmental management, and project management.

Their primary focus is on the mining and mineral exploration, and they lead permitting and regulatory affairs matters for dozens of projects.

They expect to double in size over the next two years and due to their continued success and growth.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced level professional to join my clients growing Water Stewardship Group as an Intermediate or Senior Water Resources Engineer / Geoscientist / Hydrologist to provide senior technical expertise on a range of projects;

author and deliver on high-quality technical reports and help build and lead a growing technical team of water professionals.

Remote / WFH / Hybrid : 100% Remote anywhere in western Canada

Travel :

  • Leading hydrological modelling, water management plans, and conceptual engineering design projects.
  • Managing surface water components of resource projects, including baseline studies, effects assessments, conceptual water management plans, and monitoring reports.
  • Designing and overseeing surface water monitoring programs and field programs.
  • Creating high-quality written technical reports for regulatory and permit management purposes.
  • Developing proposals, work plans, and cost estimates.
  • Delivering effective presentations to communicate project results to clients and stakeholders
  • Managing projects and supporting team management and business planning.
  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary water stewardship team and other practice areas.
  • Developing client relationships and engaging in business development activities.
  • Ensuring the successful delivery of multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Staying updated on Canadian federal and provincial water quality guidelines and impact assessment legislation and practices relevant to the water practice.

Requirements :

  • A minimum of 4 years (intermediate), or 10+ years (senior) of direct and relevant experience, preferably in the consulting industry or the natural resources sector.
  • Experience with conceptual water resource management planning.
  • Registered Professional (e.g., P.Eng, P.Geo) or ability to obtain a professional designation within six months.
  • Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in engineering or geoscience (e.g., hydrology, hydrogeology, or related fields).
  • Specific expertise in water resources engineering, water management, hydrometeorology, water balance and / or geochemical modelling, hydraulic modelling and water quality modelling.
  • Strong technical knowledge in water resources / hydrotechnical engineering, including proficiency in hydrological modelling using various platforms (GoldSim experience is beneficial).
  • Excellent technical writing skills, including thorough technical reviews for accuracy and completeness of reports.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mining and mining-related environmental impacts and regulatory requirements in multiple Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Direct experience working in the mining / resource sector.
  • Demonstrated project management abilities.
  • Mentorship and team-building skills, with the ability to guide junior and intermediate staff.
  • Proven track record in building client relationships and winning project work.
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial guidelines and regulatory requirements for surface water, effluent, and drinking water (e.g., BC ENV and CCME).
  • Experience in designing and leading field programs and studies.
  • Proficiency in managing large datasets, data analysis, interpretation, and model projections.
  • Effective time and resource management for oneself and the team.
  • Experience in effectively communicating water-related technical study results to stakeholders, regulators, First Nations, and the scientific / engineering community.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Additional Qualifications, not required but an asset :

  • Field experience.
  • Experience with a range of hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools.
  • Experience with GIS software.
  • Programming knowledge (e.g., R, Python, C, VBA), including the development of code for water resources work.
  • Experience with machine learning, and AI.
  • Direct experience working on water quality management for other natural resource projects, such as oil and gas, and / or renewable energy.
  • Knowledge of Canadian or provincial / territorial environmental impact assessment legislation and regulations (i.e., Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012) related to water quality.
