Position Summary

The University of Regina invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Justice Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field / area of Socio-Legal Studies .

The anticipated date of commencement is July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a record of or potential for scholarly research and teaching excellence commensurate with the Assistant Professor rank.

The successful candidate will be required to teach core courses in the department as well as courses from the candidate’s specialty.

The department has teaching needs in Canadian law, criminal law, criminal procedure, and law and society . Experience working with Indigenous and other diverse populations is also desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department through a productive research agenda, should have some experience pursuing grants and funding from internal and external sources (e.

g. CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC), and develop a record of effective student supervision and mentorship. As a member of the Department of Justice Studies, the successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in department, faculty, and university level service consistent with their appointed rank.

Overview of the program : The Department of Justice Studies is home to two distinct, but related programs a Bachelor of Human Justice and a Bachelor of Arts in Police Studies.

Our department has approximately 350 undergraduate majors 230 Human Justice Majors and 120 Police Studies majors. Faculty in the department draw from pluralistic approaches grounded in the field of criminology and crossing over from various disciplines.

Our courses reflect a broad understanding of justice that includes criminal, legal, social and restorative perspectives.

Position Requirements Qualified candidates should have in hand or be near completion of a terminal degree in Law, Socio-Legal Studies or a similar cognate discipline, or in a complementary discipline along with a non-terminal Law degree.
