Location : Remote
Job Status : Part-time Independent contract (12 months) - 10 hours / week (Shifts Wednesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 10 : 00 am - 4 : 00pm)
The Mental Health Counsellor is responsible for providing counselling over a period of 5 sessions. Self-referral based. Anyone in the community who needs support can self-refer themselves by filling out an intake on the NHL website and booking an appointment through Jane.
Proficiency in Urdu, Somali, or French is an Asset
Role Responsibilities
- Conduct one on one Brief counselling sessions based on a short-term model
- Be knowledgeable of MH resources
- Set and help achieve goals, address challenges and support the usage of relevant external resources
- Follow the guidelines for counseling provided by NF policy and protocols handbook (Reena)
- Create National resources for the MHC team (referrals, toolkits, etc)
- Maintain a calm, professional and respectful demeanor during every call
- Update call log at the end of each shift to ensure all documentation is complete
- Communicate with helpline manager to report issues, seek guidance or debrief as required
- Ensure confidentiality of callers as well as any other highly sensitive information is maintained
- Follow any college guidelines that they are part of
- Follow duty to report and confidentiality regulations
- Ensure all notes are done on Jane and up to date
- As contractors, you are responsible for getting your professional liability insurance which includes cyber security coverage
- Supervision you will be responsible for your client care.

Credentials
- Registered Psychotherapist (Qualified) registered with a college (ie.CRPO) and registered CCC with CCPA.
- Registered MSW registered with a Canadian college ( ie. OCSWSSW, ACSW, NSCSW etc.(each province will have different college)
- Insurance : a copy of insurance during interview stage.
- Vulnerable check - To present VSC check during interview stage
