Process Engineering Discipline Lead – SAGD / Heavy Oil CPF who brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges.
In this role, you will shape the design and execution of SAGD / Heavy Oil Central Processing Facilities (CPF) from early‑stage concepts through detailed engineering and operational support.

Key Responsibilities
What You’ll DoAs a Process Engineering Discipline Lead - SAGD / Heavy Oil CPF, you will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable CPF designs with a focus on:
- Minimizing capital costs through simplified process schemes and reduced equipment count.
- Ensuring operability and reliability.
- Leveraging standardization and repeatable designs.
- Aligning with project drivers to avoid overdesign and scope growth.
In this role, you will:
Technical Leadership - Lead the engineering of gas processing projects across all phases – Feasibility, Conceptual Design, DBM, FEED, and Detailed Engineering.
- Develop and validate process models and simulations for SAGD / Heavy Oil CPFs and other facilities.
- Oversee and stamp major process engineering deliverables including H&MBs, PFDs, P&IDs, shutdown keys, control narratives, equipment sizing and engineering reports.
- Ensure quality compliance with established processes and procedures.
Team Leadership & Collaboration - Manage process engineering deliverable quality, schedules and budgets.
- Mentor intermediate, EITs and global workshare process engineers.
- Collaborate closely with PMPE, multidiscipline engineering teams, vendors, and clients to solve complex technical challenges.
Safety, Quality & Compliance - Lead P&ID and Process Hazard Assessments (PHA) reviews to ensure safe, operable, and regulatory-compliant designs.
- Ensure engineering outputs meet API, ASME, ISO, and other applicable regulatory standards.
Project Execution - Support commissioning, start-up, and operational optimization activities.
- Deliver SAGD / Heavy Oil CPF facilities that are:
- Simple and cost-effective.
- Highly operable and reliable.
- Aligned with constructability and execution.
- Driver results that are well-defined, low-risk solutions that maximize long-term value for our clients.
Technical Excellence
Help to support:
- Greenfield CPF projects utilizing modular construction.
- Brownfield expansions and tie-ins in operating facilities.
- Programmatic SAGD developments using standardized, repeatable designs.
- Bring a strong understanding of SAGD specific challenges, including:
- Emulsion handling, fouling, and water chemistry.
- Heat integration and energy efficiency.
- Experience with water treatment, steam, dewatering and deoiling systems.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
About YouYou are an experienced engineer who thrives in a technical leadership role and enjoys working on multidisciplinary projects. You bring:
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA.
- A degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 18+ years of industry experience with SAGD / Heavy Oil CPFs.
- A proven ability to lead a Process Engineering team and deliver complex, high‑value projects.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and with clients.
- Advanced proficiency with process engineering software (HYSYS, UniSim, ProMax, etc.).
- Customer-focused with a solutions-oriented attitude.
Preferred
- Previous work in an EPCM project environment.
- Operating experience within a SAGD / Heavy Oil CPF.
