Position Summary
In close collaboration with the entire experimented Lab team, the Technical Representatives and the Technical Services Director, the mortar lab Technician supports production, sales, and product development for the Lafarge East-Canada Cement Division through laboratory work.
Responsibilities
Health and Safety :
- Respect and promote safe practices in the laboratory by adopting appropriate behaviors.
- Make sure to handle chemicals safely, respecting the environment.
- Make sure to handle laboratory equipment and mechanical devices safely.
Laboratory testing and equipment :
- Perform analyzes according to different standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, CSA and others.
- Be responsible for the proper use of the equipment and its maintenance and follow-up.
- Participate in inter-laboratory test campaigns such as CCRL, RRT and CSA. Respect the quality assurance program of the laboratory.
- Manage the laboratory warehouse space (driving a forklift and a pallet truck could be required).
Experiences and Education
- College diploma in civil engineering, chemistry or a relevant working experience;
- Experience in a laboratory is suitable;
- Must show interest in laboratory techniques;
- Must show interest in quality control and R&D analysis.
Technical expertise
- Demonstrate good analytical and good judgmental skills;
- Demonstrate good manual dexterity;
- Be responsible for the maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of certain equipment;
- Be able to update testing procedures;
- Be proficient or interested in the following laboratory methods :
- Resistance in compression on mortar ASTM C; Sulphate resistance ASTM C; Shrinkage / expansion measurement on mortar; Setting time (Vicat);
Finesse (Blaine and 45 um); etc.
