PUAD 5170 : Public Sector Human Resources Winter 2025
Course Description :
A major part of most public administration positions is human resource management. Therefore, it is important that public administrators understand the components of human resource management and their effect on an organization.
In this course, human resource management is defined in a very broad sense, touching on all the major components of human resource management in order to give an overall concept or paradigm.
The components are : 1) planning the need for public servants, 2) attracting the right people to be public servants, 3) placing the public servants in well matched jobs, 4) assisting public servants with their career development, 5) maintaining high performance with public servants and 6) evaluating public servants.
Work Assignment :
The Sessional Instructor will be responsible for a half credit course in Public Sector Human Resources offered to students in the second year of the Master of Public Administration program held on Tuesday mornings from 835 1125 during the Winter Academic Term 2024 / 2025.
The instructor will be responsible for all aspects of the class’s teaching and administration and be available for two hours per week outside class times for student consultations.
There may be additional course-related administration following the end of the course.
Qualifications / Requirements of Position
A Master’s Degree in a related field and recent or current experience at the executive level within government departments is required with experience in Public Sector Human Resources.
Preference will be given to candidates with a in Public Administration. Previous university-level teaching at the Master’s level is required as is demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the Master’s level.
Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in Public Sector HR is required.
Salary Range / Pay Rate
$6,478 per course (In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement)
