Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Registered Nurse to join the Central Intake team at the Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre in Vancouver, .

As an Intake Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health you will :

  • Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to conduct the centralized intake functions for the designated site / program services to ensure linkages between client and the appropriate resources occurs.
  • Perform initial screening, triage and referrals based on client needs, urgency of request and best practices to determine the appropriate treatment and educates and provides consultation to client / family.
  • Provide information to health providers and the general public, establishes and enhances relationships / communication within the designated program services and other community resources, prepares and maintains client records, maintains and provides accurate intake / referral data and statistics, participates in team meetings and continuing education, and engages in on-going team planning and quality improvement.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three (3) years recent related experience in the designated clinical program area or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centred care model.
  • Broad knowledge of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide client-focused, trauma informed, harm reduction, and culturally safe care in completing initial client assessments and interventions.
  • Knowledge of provincial acts, regulations, and program policies and guidelines related to home and community care.
  • Knowledge of community resources available for client / family support and related health services.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve using sound judgement in applying critical thinking skills within safe limits of client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
