Your role

Join our team as a team Lead, Indigenous Projects for our British Columbia Business Unit.

This is a leadership opportunity that will enable the right candidate to grow a service business that aligns with their own personal and cultural values and reflects the needs of the communities that we serve.

We are seeking an aspiring, self-motivated, and collaborative Team Lead to join our team committed to leading projects and building relationships across the British Columbia business unit.

This position will empower and support teams across the province.

In this role, you’ll work closely with clients to provide strategic advice and have the rewarding opportunity to contribute to meaningful change through projects that enhance access to housing, clean drinking water, education, and community infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Act as a credible champion of Indigenous culture and perspectives within Colliers Project Leaders. Contribute to Indigenous Working Group priorities
  • Collaborate with Indigenous leaders within Colliers to understand and communicate our successes across Canada
  • Form partnerships with Indigenous governing bodies, Elders, youth, Indigenous organizations, and community leaders
  • Advocate for cultural safety, diversity, and inclusion within Colliers Project Leaders and our workforce
  • Own initial community outreach and relationship building, focused on but not limited to Indigenous communities
  • Research opportunities and assist in developing a partnership plan with Indigenous governing bodies in BC and Western Canada in collaboration with the BC leadership and business development teams
  • Act as a subject matter leader for embedding the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, Indigenous data governance, the TRC Calls to Action within Colliers Project Leaders
  • Advise on activities related to ensuring free, prior, and informed consent is attained through the project management and project engagement process
  • Respect local knowledge and the protocols and culture of the people you work with, including Indigenous communities

Responsibilities

  • Identify grants and other funding opportunities and support the development of applications and funding pursuits
  • Delivery of projects in Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in British Columbia
  • Support Indigenous communities to develop economic prosperity through strategic land planning, land development and business development
  • Support Indigenous communities to plan for emergencies and rebuild after climate-related disasters
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to individuals, communities and at conferences. Attend conferences, project meetings, and industry-related events.

Monthly travel is expected

  • Contribute to the annual Business Unit business plan and budget. Manage human resources and motivate, coach and inspire your team to develop and achieve targets and goals
  • Deploy internal resources and track team utilization. Ensure team members can manage workloads and project demands while balancing professional development activities
  • Be accountable for client satisfaction and embrace a client-centric attitude
  • Maintain contact with existing and prospective clients and respond to business development and sales opportunities with support from the Business Development Team, Principal or Regional Vice President
  • Provide strategic advice to senior staff and elected officials on a variety of complex local issues
  • Work with a variety of client groups in both the public and private sectors, including Indigenous Governing Bodies, Indigenous community groups and organizations, local authorities (regional districts and municipalities), provincial government and federal government Consult directly with community leaders and Rights and Title Holders, funding partners, and design and construction professionals to plan and implement capital building and infrastructure projects
  • Facilitate consensus-building meetings and processes across jurisdictions, including between Indigenous governing bodies and local authorities

Qualifications

Experience building and nurturing long-term client relationships, and working collaboratively with Indigenous governing bodies.

Experience with First Nations and local authorities in BC is considered a strong asset

  • 5 years or more of project management experience involving Indigenous governing bodies, Indigenous organizations, or local, provincial, or federal governments
  • Previous experience and aptitude in a leadership or people management role, providing oversight to small, local, or virtual teams
  • Strong knowledge of various types of construction methodologies, project management models, financial management, building codes, contract law, and / or relevant legislation
  • A strong desire to grow the business presence in the local market and expand the team to meet company growth targets
  • Clear understanding of a professional services business model, including workforce composition strategies
  • A broad written and verbal communication skill set including strong presentation, organizational and analytical skills
  • Professional industry credentials such as PMP, ., CET, RA, or similar industry-recognized designation is considered a strong asset
  • A strong sense of community and involvement in local community boards and associations
  • Preference for candidates with demonstrated experience working respectfully in cross-cultural settings, including building, and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities
