Job description

Nova Hotels is a Canadian, family-owned and operated hotel group with 13 full and limited-service hotels across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. We are looking for reliable and experienced Line Cook to join our culinary team at Chateau Nova Yellowknife (4571- 48 Street Yellowknife, NWT X1A 0E2). The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals and individual dishes while maintaining food quality, safety and presentation standards. This is a hands-on role in a busy hotel kitchen and requires someone who can stay organized, work efficiently and contribute positively to the kitchen team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook complete meals, individual dishes and menu items according to established recipes and standards.
  • Prepare ingredients and complete food preparation for daily service.
  • Ensure food is prepared to the correct quality, portion and presentation standards.
  • Monitor food temperatures, storage and handling practices to maintain food safety standards.
  • Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment as required.
  • Assist with monitoring food supplies and identifying items that need to be ordered.
  • Set up and maintain assigned workstations for service.
  • Support buffet, banquet and special-event food preparation as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary kitchen and work area.
  • Properly store food and ingredients and assist in minimizing food waste.
  • Work closely with chefs, cooks and other kitchen employees to ensure timely and efficient meal service.
  • Assist with training and providing direction to kitchen helpers when required.
  • Follow hotel policies, food safety standards and workplace health and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Completion of a cooking apprenticeship, college or other recognized cooking or food safety program, or equivalent commercial cooking experience.
  • Previous experience working as a cook or line cook in a commercial kitchen.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and safe food-handling practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow recipes, portion standards and food preparation procedures.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

Employment Type:

  • Permanent, Full time
  • 30-40 hours per week depending upon business needs
  • Wage: $25 per hour
