The Opportunity :
The Cardlock Territory Manager will be responsible for ensuring safe operations and excellent on-site execution, managing OPEX for the territory, and ensuring Parkland exceeds customers’ expectations.
This position will be working closely with employees in our Regional Operating Centres as well as Retail counterparts for combo Pipeline Commercial locations.
Responsibilities :
Execute site operations safely and efficiently
- Is a safety leader within the territory ensuring the highest safety standards are being met for all sites.
- Ensures all site operators are following proper safety procedures. Is up to date on safety and regulatory standards within the territory to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Leads roll-out of the new operating procedures for site operators in the form of a Daily-Weekly-Monthly checklist. Also leads the roll-out of Parkland’s mobile app to support site execution and monitoring thereof.
- Trains site operators, or ensures training is provided by subject matter experts.
- Ensures site operators are meeting these daily expectations via regular site inspections and workplace observations regularly to ensure compliance.
- Acts as main point of contact for third-party contractors, agents, and dealers who operate our sites.
- Acts as Operations’ liaison with the Sales team.
- Establishes a succession plan for site operators.
- Finds new third-party site operators to replace poor performers, operators wishing to leave, or to serve new sites.
- Resolves customer concerns raised by the Sales team related to on-site issues.
- Resolves Site Asset issues by creating tasks in EM+, collaborating closely with Facilities & Infrastructure to ensure issue resolution within Service Level Agreements.
- Works with our Real Estate and Facilities teams to determine optimal strategy for maintenance, improvements, and leases at each site.
- Promotes Parkland Values and BOLD behaviour within the territory.
Profit & Loss Management and Business Growth
- Ensures all sites within territory are meeting their profitability targets. Work with Finance to find opportunities to reduce expenses, and with Sales to identify priority focus areas for volume.
- Identifies opportunities to reduce operating expenses.
- Coding & approval of all operational invoices at Corporate sites within their territory (e.g. snow plowing, agent fees, etc).
- Assess requests from third-party operators for additional expenses / increased compensation.
- Evaluate dealer requests to add new services to their sites e.g. restaurants, DEF, etc. and determine / negotiate economic involvement of Parkland (e.
g. capex, throughput fees) and then ensure contracts are amended accordingly.
- Act as business point-of-contact in working with our Facilities team to prioritize and execute desired maintenance or construction / expansion.
- Act as business point-of-contact in working with our Real Estate team to manage leases.
Education :
College or university degree or equivalent experience.
Requirements :
- Very strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent ability to build relationships including managing conflict and having tough conversations.
- Self-starter who can work independently.
- 3 -5 years’ experience in operations management.
- 3 -5 years industry experience in the fuel business, cardlock, or general retail.
- 3 -5 years’ experience with regional or national distributed operations.
- Willingness to travel within province, including overnight trips.
- Bilingualism is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
