Position Description :

Under the direction and supervision of the Director, StudentRights & Responsibilities, this Advisor is responsible for theimplementation of the College's Student Code of Conduct.

The Advisor will workcollaboratively with other departments at the College including Counselling& Student Well-being, Safety and Security, Athletics, Residence, and theAcademic Centres to provide guidance on matters pertaining to student behaviourand community standards at the College.

They will undertake investigations,provide case management support to students, and support the delivery ofeducation and training across the College.

Key responsibilities :

Intake and investigation of informal / formal complaints under the Student Code of Conduct by faculty, staff, and students

Triage intakes, reviews complaints, and collates investigatory information.

Identifies, obtains, reviews, and analyzes all documentation and evidence relevant to the investigation.

Meets with the complainants and respondents where necessary to collect information regarding complaints; gathers necessary information to identify relevant issues.

Analysis and Report Writing

Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates all evidence and information collected during an investigation including identification and analysis of any legal / regulatory issues following guidelines as set out in the related policies and operating procedures.

Writes detailed, high-quality reports and correspondence setting out facts of a case cogently, objectively, and accurately based on a well-reasoned analysis and objective assessment of the evidence.

Case Management

Responsible for advising and informing complainants and / or respondents of the complaint process and coordinating appropriate dissemination of information regarding investigations and sanctions.

Participates in the Behavioral Intervention Team to track and respond to concerns regarding student behaviors.

Continuous Improvement and Strategic Engagement

Conducts research, and environmental scans and collects best practices in the development of educational, presentations, and promotional materials on matters pertinent to the Code of Conduct.

Other duties as assigned.

Educationaland Experience Requirements :

  • Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a relevant field (Social Work, Psychology, Criminology, Law, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and education).
  • Minimum of five years of experience working with highly diverse student populations.
  • Experience in investigations, case management, administrative law and processes, and mediation.
  • Knowledge of mental health resources and experience working with individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Experience with risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Experience developing / drafting investigative plans, gathering evidence, interviewing, and report writing.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing high-quality, detailed investigation reports dealing with individual and systemic issues, including identifying and applying relevant legislation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and electronic databases.

  • Advanced mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Solid analytical skills to assess the relevant evidence and exercise sound judgment, tact, and counselling skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret policy and protocol.
  • Ability to exercise discretion regarding sensitive or confidential issues.
  • Broad leadership skills managing a diverse team of experienced individuals.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
