Job Summary :

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you'll be a cornerstone of our legal team and a trailblazer within the organization. You'll deliver exceptional legal services to diverse business lines and functions at Central 1, handpicked by the General Counsel.

Your expertise in IP law, employment law, and the legal and regulatory dimensions of digital initiatives and procurement will be indispensable.

Leading major projects and transactions, you'll be at the forefront of driving our legal strategies and ensuring compliance with cutting-edge innovations.

What you’ll be doing :

Providing legal services to business lines and functions within Central 1 assigned by the General Counsel

Acting as lead in house lawyer on transactions conducted by those lines of business and functions such as the establishment of strategic partnerships and entering into of material services agreements, and technology licensing arrangements.

Having extensive subject matter expertise and providing practical legal advice in respect of matters involving IP law, employment law and legal and regulatory matters associated with digital initiatives and procurement.

Providing primary legal support for the development of new products and services in assigned business unit.

Assisting business units and functions in identifying legal issues and risks and complying with regulations.

Supporting the client development team with respect to legal matters and negotiations that arise in the course of their sales efforts.

Advising on existing contractual arrangements and questions of contract interpretation.

Managing legal projects, including those related to strategic initiatives and compliance.

Managing external legal counsel.

Developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of Central 1’s products and services.

Supporting the executive management team’s preparation of reports and resolutions for board of director committees.

Managing litigation.

May supervise lawyers and non-lawyers.

Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll have

Minimum 8 years relevant experience, preferably at both a major law firm and in house at a financial institution.

Experience drafting and negotiating agreements with IT and other service providers.

Experience advising a financial institution on digital initiatives.

Knowledge of provincial and federal financial institution regulation.

Knowledge of IP and employment law.

Membership in good standing with the B.C. Law Society or the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Ability to provide timely practical legal advice with respect to complex matters and craft innovative, business-oriented solutions and assist in executing them.

Willingness to tackle matters outside of areas of expertise.

Ability to work collaboratively, think practically and use sound judgment.

Practical, results-oriented approach combined with strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a dynamic & varied environment.

Strong organizational and client service skills.

Salary Range : $150,000-$165,000

The salary represents the job rate determined for the successful candidate who is fully competent in the role. The actual salary will vary depending on market conditions and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education / training.
