Job Description
Accountabilities :
- Liaising with the discharge and access and flow coordinators as well as admitting staff to coordinate the appropriate bed assignment as well as other members of the inter-professional team to ensure a coordinated approach to patient discharge and transfer
- Collaborating with inter-professional teams, including home and community care, to utilize available resources in the most efficient and effective manner possible with the aim of promoting patient flow and a positive patient experience
- Ensuring that narcotic and controlled substance activities are resolved prior to completion of each unique shift including discrepancies, scheduled counts and shift reports
- Working with and maintaining a therapeutic relationship with the physician team members
- Maintaining current knowledge of emergency preparedness protocols and procedures and the appropriate responses to emergency codes
- Acting as the lead during emergency codes, which may involve reporting to the command center and as the fire warden for the inpatient area
- Liaise with the environmental services team and / or the access and flow coordinator to facilitate timely bed / room cleaning and patient transport
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum five years recent experience practicing as an registered nurse with exemplary clinical skills in emergency required
- Minimum two years recent leadership experience, directly supervising others required
- Current Heart and Stroke Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certificate required
- Coronary Care 1 required
- Coronary Care 2 preferred
- Must demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Compassion, Innovation and Collaboration
- Possess clinical expertise and demonstrated exemplary clinical practice with the following up to date courses required : current Trauma Nursing Core course, Emergency Nursing Pediatric course, Emergency Nursing Certified Canada certificate, Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications
Additional Information
Hours : Currently days / nights, 12 hours including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
