Under the direction of the Director, Business Development, McMillan has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Business Development role in our Vancouver or Calgary offices.
The role will be responsible for delivering client and business development services to key national practice and sector groups, providing strategic advice and skilled execution of key initiatives.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior business development professional in Western Canada, with over ten years of experience, who is looking for a new challenge.
Please note that this role offers a hybrid workweek. Each week will combine both working at home for a few days and working in the office for the balance.

What You'll Do
As the Manager, Marketing & Business Development you will be responsible for supporting practice- and sector-focused client and business development strategies by developing, executing and managing marketing and business development initiatives to build profile, develop client relationships and support revenue growth.
You will drive initiatives for internal stakeholders which generate results externally. To this end, you will have primary responsibility to actively participate in the development and implementation of business plans and annual budgets, gaining a thorough understanding of the group's objectives and staying up-to-date on industry trends.
You will contribute to business development (BD) meetings, providing valuable insights and guidance. The Manager will work to raise the profile, reputation, and brand of the related practice areas and sectors through active participation in events, targeted involvement with organizations, seminars, publications, and community engagement.
Leading group client and BD initiatives, you will collaborate with other MBD team members (including MarCom, CRM, events, and research) as needed to drive success.
The Manager will also implement strategies to increase business with existing and potential key clients, while supporting awareness-building activities such as directory submissions, conference attendance, thought leadership, and sponsorship evaluations.
Additionally, the role involves providing input on pitches and proposals and managing one direct report, guiding and coaching them in their responsibilities.
This role will also support other MBD projects as required.
What You'll Bring
- You have prior experience leading marketing personnel and championing business development initiatives for client development, market growth and competitive differentiation.
- You have a minimum of 7-10 years' experience related experience in a professional services (a business selling intellectual capital) industry.
Previous experience in a law firm or financial services environment would be considered an asset.
- You communicate in a professional manner, exercising discretion and tact.
- You demonstrate the ability to handle stress and multiple tasks in a composed, calm and professional manner.
- You embrace evolving technology and have strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, database management / CRM systems, business analytics and experience with social media and marketing automation tools.
- You are a team player with a flexible attitude, have the ability to set direction and establish priorities.
- You work well under pressure. In addition, this position requires an individual with excellent organizational, communication and positive attitude both working independently and with cross-functional teams.
- You have the ability to take initiative and work autonomously.
- You enjoy project work and do not shy away from rolling up the sleeves.
- You have the ability to travel across offices.
