Position Summary :

Microserve is looking for a Director of Supply Chain to join our leadership team. This role can be located anywhere within Western Canada where we have a warehouse location with a preference of Calgary, Alberta.

This role will report into our Vice President of Operations.

In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the entire supply chain process, from sourcing and procurement to distribution across our network of warehouses and clients.

You will also be responsible for overseeing logistics, inventory management, and order fulfillment to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

The Director of Supply Chain will develop and implement supply chain strategies that align with the company’s goals and market demands, including sustainability initiatives and risk management plans.

The Director of Supply Chain will also negotiate contracts with suppliers, vendors, and logistics providers to secure favorable terms and ensure a reliable supply of materials and services.

They will collaborate with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and finance, to forecast demand and plan supply chain activities accordingly.

They will also be responsible to implement and utilize advanced supply chain management technologies and systems for improved visibility, tracking, and optimization of operations.

In addition, the Director of Supply Chain will be responsible for ensuring Microserve is compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to supply chain activities, including environmental and safety standards.

They will spearhead initiatives to identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain, such as supplier diversification, inventory management strategies, and contingency planning for disruptions.

Key Responsibilities :

Strategic Development and Implementation :

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive supply chain strategy aligned with Microserves business goals.
  • Contribute to corporate strategies in the areas of supply chain, procurement, logistics, and inventory management to ensure that the company achieves its short and long-term objectives
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for supply chain process improvements.
  • Implement and utilize advanced supply chain management technologies and systems for improved visibility, tracking, and optimization of operations
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and finance, to forecast demand and plan supply chain activities accordingly
  • Spearhead initiatives to identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain, such as supplier diversification, inventory management strategies, and contingency planning for disruptions

Sourcing and Procurement :

  • Establish and manage relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Develop sourcing strategies to ensure goods and services' best value and quality.
  • Implement standardized procurement processes and best practices.
  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers, vendors, and logistics providers to secure favorable terms and ensure a reliable supply of materials and services

Distribution and Replenishment :

  • Oversee the distribution warehouses to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of products to client locations.
  • Implement inventory management systems to optimize stock levels and reduce waste.
  • Director of Supply Chain will own accurate reporting of inventory and analyses (both company owned, and customer owned), as well as item setup accuracy.
  • Create and manage on-going key performance indicators and to track cost, schedule, quality, and overall performance of supply chain functions across the organization
  • Direct and control procurement, logistics, and inventory management functions to ensure that customers are supplied with the right quantities of goods at the right times and at the right cost

Process Improvement :

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to ensure that core supply chain functions achieve their business objectives
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Director of Supply Chain will own cost optimization within Microserve Supply Chain organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations and reduce costs.
  • Director of Supply Chain will be responsible for developing Supply Chain P&L reporting (in collaboration with Finance) and achievement of the financial targets.
  • Utilize data analytics to make informed decisions and improve supply chain performance.
  • Director of Supply Chain will play a key role in the new ERP implementation project.

Leadership and Team Development :

  • Lead and manage the supply chain team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation, to build a high-performing team
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the supply chain function.
  • Maintain working relationships with all other directors within the company to ensure effective co-ordination of all company activities in support of corporate objectives
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to supply chain activities, including environmental and safety standards

Job Requirements / Qualifications :

  • 10+ years of Supply Chain experience with proven leadership capabilities in building high-performing team
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a high volume, high value, fast moving items environment, preferably in an e-commerce / warehousing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing new 3PL (3rd party logistics) arrangements and managing third-party relations, cost, and performance
  • Advanced knowledge of logistics related software and technology systems such as WMS, Shipping Systems, ERP, IMS, and TMS
  • ERP implementation experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Finance and Operations
  • Strong data analytics skills with ability to lead and drive complex analysis and provide specific guidance to analysts
  • Expert in MS Office
  • Supply Chain Management Professional Designation is considered an asset
  • Professional Logistician Designation is considered an asset
  • Sense of urgency
