The Ottawa Citizen has an immediate opening for a Breaking News Reporter. The successful candidate will bring a strong work ethic, a passion for local journalism, and an ability to work under pressure to the role. Your work will focus squarely on one of the most valuable and well-read beats in the city : public safety. When disaster strikes or chaos emerges, you will be on the scene to deliver Ottawa readers the facts they need to know — and how to stay safe. What you’ll do :

• Seek out and respond to breaking news events in the national capital region
• Report on the biggest stories in the city, with speed and clarity
• Pitch ideas for enterprise stories that bring a solutions lens to public safety issues in Ottawa
• File news in various formats, including quick hits, in‑depth explainers, live blogs, and video
• Work collaboratively with a tight‑knit team of reporters, editors, photographers and digital producers to bring essential journalism to our readers
