Our client requires a sr. data architect to provide architectural and technical expertise, leadership, project management and services related to data management to improve the quality, security, effectiveness and value of data and information.

Resource will work remotely but must be available to be on-site when requested. Actual onsite attendance may be negotiable, particularly if resource lives outside Alberta. Standard Hours of work are 08 : 15 – 16 : 30 Alberta time. Work must be done from within Canada, due to network and data security issues. Resource is responsible to pay for travel to on-site meetings.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to :

  • Provide advice and consulting services regarding data management strategies, data architecture, and ministry data.
  • Consult with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist in developing project plans, schedules, and estimates pertaining to architectural deployment and services delivery.
  • Assist in developing task lists and resource assignments within the context of architectural planning.
  • Document technical recommendations; provide technical advice and guidance to management, operations and project team members and within shared IT services.
  • Ensure change management processes are followed.
  • Make recommendations to project team members pertaining to issues, risks and client satisfaction.
  • Provide tracking and reporting of time and status on all work as required.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Must meet or exceed one of the following : University graduation in business, management or a related discipline and 6-yr Data Architect (DA) years’ experience; OR2-yr diploma in business, management or a related discipline and 8-yr DA years’ experience;OR1-yr certificate in business, management or a related discipline and 9-yr DA years’ experience;OR10-yr DA years’ experience.
  • 10 years’ experience designing, planning, implementing and supporting enterprise data architectures in an environment equivalent in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta.
  • 10 years’ experience documenting enterprise data solution architectures in an environment equivalent in size and complexity to the Government of Alberta.
  • 10 years’ experience with the Government of Alberta Enterprise Architecture or similar corporate architectures, and all associated best practices, methods, standards, tools, policies, and processes.
  • 10 years’ experience dealing with clients and technical team and explaining complex data principles in a thoughtful manner.
  • 10 years’ experience implementing data management platforms / solutions.
  • 10 years’ experience with data transformation and data orchestration techniques and tools.
  • Must have own computer equipment and be comfortable using it for completion of work required by this contract.

    • Desirable Requirements

  • 5 years’ experience providing leadership, planning, estimating, and presentations of architecture ideas and solutions.
  • 5 years’ experience with advanced Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence planning, and architecture skills in Azure technology stack.
  • 5 years’ experience and technical knowledge of SQL server architecture.
  • 5 years’ experience in Agile Projects.
  • 3 years’ experience working in or for the public sector.
  • 5 years’ experience in testing methodology of Facts and Dimensions to ensure quality assurance
  • 3 years’ experience in using a tool to do architecture models such as : PowerDesigner, ER Studio, Er-win, BPwin, Rational Rose.
  • 2 years’ experience with cloud computing or big data platforms and infrastructure.
  • 2 years’ experience with MS Purview and Azure cloud environments
  • 2 years’ experience in providing solution architecture and design for the development, enhancements, and maintenance of data products on Cloud Data Platforms like Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.
  • 1 year experience in providing solution architecture and design for the development, enhancements, and maintenance of data products on key data platforms (Cloudera, etc.) to ensure the solution design meets business requirements.
