ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Working as an integral part of the Ta7lnew̓ás Education, Employment and Training Department, this position reports directly to the Principal. The purpose of this position is to plan for, deliver and monitor educational services for Squamish community members that adhere to the philosophy, goals and mission statement of Xwemel’ch’stn Etsímxwawtxw. The incumbent is expected to operate with the highest level of confidentiality and must be an expert in implementing elementary education that incorporates current, research-based strategies and programs across the disciplines for the Squamish Nation. In addition the Elementary Education Teacher provides cross-curricular guided inquiry experiences, collaborates with colleagues and community to inform, plan and implement curriculum. Allowing for future growth, the incumbent may be required to teach other primary / intermediate grades within the Elementary.

• Able to deliver negative information tactfully and diplomatically when needed. Acts ethically and handles sensitive information with confidentiality.
• Wilderness First Aid (40 hr advanced course) or be willing to complete.
• Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude.

Salary : Follows the North Vancouver School District Salary grid.
