Position Description :

The Patient Care Manager will report to the Clinical Director of Critical Care, Respiratory Services & Trauma, Women's & Children's Programs.

This role will provide management of the day-to-day operations of the Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) in-patient units and the Paediatric Ambulatory clinics at the Oshawa site.

Provide leadership in ensuring the provision of quality patient care through monitoring and adjusting daily clinical operations and administrative activities to ensure efficient and effective department operation.

The leader will provide, in collaboration with CPL and other leadership peers, staff supervision and support human resource planning, including conducting performance appraisals, monitoring competency assessment processes for staff and supporting the ongoing education, mentorship and development of the LHO - Paeds / NICU / Paeds Ambulatory Services team members.

Responsibilities will include management of the budget and finance related activities to ensure and effective operations and ensuring unit performance metrics are met.

This leader will facilitate the provision of high standards of patient care through the promotion of evidence-based practice and ongoing continuous improvement processes in collaboration with the Clinical Practice Leader (CPL).

This role will facilitate a safe environment grounded on learning, quality and inclusive and equitable culture, where evidence-based knowledge is the driver to optimize the patient's outcomes and experiences.

You will also be responsible for project & change management initiatives that are in line with program and organizational strategic plans.

This role will provide program cultural enrichment by designing, implementing and facilitating initiatives and strategies to develop psychologically safe environments focused on team development, IDEAA principles, appreciation of differences and delivery of quality, safe care delivery that is consistent for all who enter our doors.

The role will also provide consultation and support to all members of the team seeking to initiate cultural enrichment related work.

Qualifications : BScN is required

BScN is required

Master's in a Health related field - required

5-10 years progressive leadership experience : management, change management, quality improvement, project management - required

BCLS required

Pediatric, Neonatal, and multi-site hospital environment experience - preferred

ACLS, RNAO, CNCCP(c), CNeoN(c), CpedN(c) preferred

Demonstrated skills and knowledge of : Quality improvement, Change management, Strategic leadership & planning, Problem-solving, Cultural sensitivity, Emotional intelligence, Financial aptitude, Coaching, Mentorship, Team building

Demonstrated understanding of hospital funding models and CCSO / Canadian Paediatric Society / Provincial Council for Maternal and Child health / Canadian Association of Perinatal standards and metric accountabilities

Proven track record of equity-promoting environment that improve the organization and inspire confidence and commitment

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively and create a high performance culture through change management strategies that facilitates growth and development, and ingrain inclusion, diversity, equity and anti-racism into all activities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospital functions and current trends in health care;

Experienced in decision-making processes and policies that promote equity in hiring practices and advancement for equity-deserving groups

Creating a culture of safety through in your communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;

Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy; and

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area;

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Proven knowledge of and ability to work with Collective Agreements and Labour Relations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and related best practice guidelines;
  • Developing, implementing and leading short and long-term plans which support and advance unit priorities;
  • Managing, motivating and providing professional / clinical leadership to multi-generational / interprofessional teams; ensuring ongoing practice and professional development of a cohesive team;
  • Liaising and collaborating with physicians and physician leadership to support operations of clinical area(s) and organizational goals;
  • Maintaining a physical environment that promotes patient healing, supports staff in the delivery of safe patient care and meets fire and safety codes;

Demonstrating understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations and the Health Centre's Health and Safety policies, protocols procedures and guidelines.

Co-ordinating and collaborating with the CPL to orient and onboard new hires.

Serving as a role model in the development and maintenance of an organizational culture that ensures support of and commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of Lakeridge Health.

Collecting, analyzing and disseminating quality data to the team to promote continuous quality improvement, maintaining accountability for the quality and integrity of data reported to external agencies, e.

g., CCSO, including sign off;
