Aplin has partnered with a leader in the defense industry to hire a Hardware Electrical Engineer. You will support the engineering team by helping turn customer requirements into effective cabling and interconnect solutions. This role focuses on interpreting electrical schematics, creating system interconnect diagrams, and developing cable and harness designs used in complex systems.
This role is a one year renewable contract position that requires 2-3 days onsite a week in Kanata, ON.
Key Responsibilities
- Design cable and harness solutions that meet defined technical requirements
- Apply relevant interconnect design and fabrication standards
- Create power, system block, and wiring diagrams
- Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, tolerances, and industry symbols
- Support production during New Product Integration (NPI)
- Produce detailed cable drawings and understand supporting hardware documentation
- Consider EMI, bonding, and grounding principles in cable design
- Work with MIL-Spec connectors, backshells, and similar components
- Research new materials and suppliers to support a strong supply chain
- Build Bills of Materials (BOMs) and address part obsolescence
Participate in peer reviews of cable designs
Follow configuration-management processes for design changesDocument designs using ECAD tools, Microsoft Visio, and Office applicationsRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, an Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, or equivalent educationExperience developing preliminary and detailed cable / harness layouts for system-level connectivityStrong communication skills for working with vendors and customersSelf-starter with a focus on results and production needsGrowing expertise in cable assembly best practicesAbility to support conceptual design, drafting, and technical tasks for new or existing cablingNice to Haves
