Position Summary
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the incumbent supports internal customers by performing a variety of tasks related to the operation, maintenance and installation of the College’s plumbing and mechanical systems at all campuses, specifically.
The installation repair and maintenance of plumbing fixtures located throughout the washrooms and building service areas on campuses.
The supply and discharge of water within the various buildings on campuses. The installation, monitoring, and servicing of the campuses HVAC and associated mechanical systems.
The incumbent will repair / supervise the repairs to the water mains and drains within the campus, with the assistance of contractors if so required.
Perform varied technical building maintenance functions within the campus related to facilities servicing. The incumbent may perform other duties related within the Facilities Management department when required.
Depending on the College’s needs, the incumbent will be required to travel between campuses to perform their duties.
Responsibilities
Plumbing systems and fixtures
Installs services and repairs plumbing systems and fixtures including storm sanitary and water piping systems; Sinks, toilets and other plumbing related washroom fixtures;
Water heaters, conditioners, softeners, filters; Plumbing fixtures, appliances and trim.
- HVAC systems and / or other equipment
- Performs diagnostics, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation work on HVAC systems and / or equipment specific to : Cooling systems, Condensing water systems, Heating systems, Hot water systems, Radiant and forced air systems.
- Inspects and performs preventative maintenance on air handling units
- Installs, repairs and maintains water treatment equipment (well water pumping / distribution systems, piping and controls)
- Installs, repairs and maintains sewage treatment equipment (collection and distribution systems, piping and controls)
Other Duties :
- Oversees inventory control including ordering parts and updating log.
- Coordinates contracted trades as occasionally required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and work does not exceed the incumbent’s own limitations
Qualifications
Education
Trade certification or equivalent from the Ontario Ministry of Skills and Development certificate of qualifications as a Plumber (Construction and Maintenance 306a), along with the completion of an associated 4-year apprenticeship is required.
Experience
- 3 years’ experience following plumbing licensing.
- Must be knowledgeable of HVAC principles as applied to a typical building environment.
- Experienced in commercial or institutional setting with mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Experienced in the installation and / or maintenance of all types of sanitary and plumbing equipment and HVAC systems.
- Ability to interpret building mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of steam supplied HVAC systems.
- Basic computer literacy is required.

A combination of relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements in the event that there are no internal applicants that meet the qualifications as posted.
