DUTIES : The Instructional Assistant will assist instructors with planning, organizing, and managing learning activities within in the Mining Engineering Technician Program by :
- supporting delivery of instruction and student evaluation;
- working closely with students to model appropriate behaviours and be generally accountable for the demonstration of specific skills, tasks, or work practices in a field / laboratory setting;
- assisting the instructor with any courses that have a field / laboratory component;
- working with program instructors to identify the equipment needs for specific field / laboratory activities and be responsible for equipment servicing and maintenance;
- play a key role in ensuring equipment and supplies are assessed and re-ordered as required; and
- performing other related duties consistent with maintaining quality student-centered learning.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA :
- knowledge of the mining industry;
- knowledge of current teaching / learning methods and classroom management as it applies to field / laboratory settings;
- Effective communication, analytical, conflict resolution, and organizational skills;
- the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a teaching environment; and
- a commitment to student success strategies and initiatives.
SCREENING CRITERIA :
- completion of a diploma program in Mining Engineering Technology or Technician from an accredited educational institution, and
- recent, relevant work experience in the mining industry.
- an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT :
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a Class IV License
The successful candidate will be required to provide a recent Certificate of Conduct.
SALARY : Commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the College of the North Atlantic Faculty Collective Agreement.
