KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is accountable to the Director of Care to provide professional nursing care to residents and supervise care given by Personal Support Workers (PSW).

Primary functions include assessment and planning of resident care needs; delivery of skilled procedures according to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice;

medication administration; and documentation.

The Registered Practical Nurse is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the core values and employee guiding principles, ensure resident safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

There are multiple permanent part time positions working 30 hours biweekly (2 for the day shift, 1 for the evening shift and 1 for the night shift).

There are also multiple relief positions with no guaranteed hours . Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility

• All shifts available Day, Evening, Night
• This role is in a seniors congregate setting and may be subject to working in outbreak (COVID, flu, etc.) conditions
• May work with residents who are physically or cognitively impaired
• Interacts with families, staff, and volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS :

Must possess current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE :

Experience in rehabilitation or long-term care nursing

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES :

• Proficiency in interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficiency with MS Office suite, internet use and computerized documentation
• Deal tactfully and courteously with residents, resident’s families, visitors and staff in a positive manner
• Demonstrate a high level of integrity, sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Facilitate multidisciplinary communication in complex care issues to foster positive resident outcomes
• Establish and sustain care in a manner that is resident centred and fosters evidence based best practice
• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.

e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening

Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
