The Lethbridge Public Library is looking for a technically strong, positive, energetic IT Assistant who will provide our diverse and valued customers with the best information technology service experience in Lethbridge.

What you need to bring to this position :
- Completion of a technical or community college diploma in Computer Information Technology.
- Library Technician diploma or demonstrated knowledge of public library services and systems is an asset.
- Customer service experience is an asset.
- Experience with troubleshooting and technical support.
- Proficient with workstation software such as email clients, web browsers, office suites.
- Demonstrated proficiency and technical experience with workstation computers and equipment, and network devices.
- Strong understanding of current Microsoft workstation operating systems.
- Familiarity with general networking concepts and application, and Microsoft Active Directory.
- Ability to learn new software quickly.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English and demonstrate good listening skills.
- Must treat customer and staff information according to privacy legislation and library policy.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently while paying strict attention to detail.
- Demonstrated decision making skills and the ability to exercise good judgment in the best interests of Lethbridge Public Library at all times.
- Ability to be culturally aware, non-judgmental and sensitive to the needs of a variety of individuals with differing backgrounds and lived experiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional development.
Your average day at LPL includes :
- Answering help desk queries and acting as a resource in providing technical support and troubleshooting.
- Documenting interactions within the incident management software.
- Acting as a resource for other staff as required.
- Providing support and training for staff and the public in the use of IT resources, general computer use and other library-wide software and systems as required.
- Developing training content for IT products as needed.
- Producing documentation for systems and processes
- Communicating changes and fixes, providing updates on emergent IT problems and prioritizing or escalating urgent issues.
- Researching viability and cost of IT systems, devices, and supporting software.
- Assisting with new equipment setup including staging computers, installing cabling, assisting staff with new configuration.
- Updating website structure and content as requested.
- Maintaining, upgrading, and enhancing network directories, communication systems, scheduling systems, and network file structure.
- Monitoring systems and logs and troubleshooting or escalating as required.
- Patching IT systems and devices as updates become available.
- Other duties as required.
Hours of work and location :
- 40 hours bi-weekly, including day, evening and weekend shifts.
- Working at the Main Branch and Crossings Branch as required.
- Reporting to Manager : Information Technology.
Salary Range :
The salary range for this position is $28.17 to $31.33 hourly as per C.U.P.E. Local 70 (Library Employees) Collective Agreement.
Note :
The successful candidate will be required to complete a Police Information Check prior to the start date.
This is a term appointment and will terminate upon return of the incumbent, expected to be December 2024.
