We are currently seeking a Supervising Portfolio Manager to oversee CI Assante Wealth Management's Managed Account Program.

This program is a new line of business and is one of the key initiatives to expand our wealth management platform, one of three strategic priorities for CI Financial.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help grow our suite of managed programs including Portfolio Managed Accounts, SMA and UMA.

We’re looking for someone with fresh new ideas to ensure the delivery of a best in class program. This role will be part of the team responsible for delivering the technology, product and services to attract new Portfolio Managers to Assante.

This business will marry our history of delivering comprehensive investment, retirement, insurance, estate and tax planning advice to clients with the ability to provide institutional level portfolio manager capabilities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide strategic input into the development of Assante’s discretionary Advisor managed, SMA and UMA programs including but not limited to platform, fee structure and product development.
  • Act as the Designated Managed Account Supervisor, responsible for all Managed Accounts at Assante including quarterly account oversight reviews of all households in the program to ensure that each managed portfolio conforms to the clients Investment Policy Statement, program investment guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a relationship manager with Assante discretionary Portfolio Managers in coaching on various investment related and oversight matters.
  • Oversee the Supervision delegated to Compliance of Managed Accounts, working to resolve any issues identified as part of the monthly and quarterly oversight process and escalate issues where necessary.
  • Act as Chairman to the Managed Accounts Committee
  • Responsible for oversight of all Sub Managed programs
  • Responsible for two-year supervision of all Associate Portfolio Managers
  • Complete suitability reviews of Investment Policy Statements for Associate Portfolio Managers.
  • Oversee the tracking process to ensure Investment Policy Statements are updated at least annually as needed.
  • Point of contact for internal auditors and facilitates responses to inquiries for external audits in coordination with the Supervising Portfolio Manager.
  • Subject matter expert on Product Risk Ratings and Classifications

Key Interactions

The following internal interactions constitute an integral part of this position :

Direct report to VP Business Service and Support, along with high level interactions with Assante Executive team, and internal and third-party Portfolio Managers, Business Development Field team, Managed Accounts Committee, Branch Managers, and internal partners including CI product development, Branch practices, Operations, and Registrations.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • University or college degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Canadian Investment Manager or Chartered Financial Analyst designation
  • 10+ years securities industry experience with at least 7+ years of Supervisory and Portfolio Management Experience
  • Minimum of three years as a Registered Representative or a Research Analyst for a Dealer Member
  • Completion of applicable securities industry courses offered by the Canadian Securities Institute including Canadian Securities Course, and the Conducts and Practices Handbook Course.
  • Field experience dealing directly with Investment Advisors and Portfolio Managers.
  • Thorough understanding of Securities Industry products
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the relevant securities legislation and SRO rules and regulations.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with ability to effectively communicate with senior managers and executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong collaborative business relationships.
  • Well organized, detail oriented with the ability to execute well in a multi-task environment

WORKING CONDITIONS

Some travel within Canada may be required to visit and supervise Assante’s Portfolio Managers
