POSITION SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Property Manager, the Courier Maintenance II performs maintenance duties requiring technical skills and craftsmanship and addresses repair / maintenance issues.
The Courier Maintenance II is responsible for operating society vehicles throughout the region for various purposes including the pickup and delivery of equipment and materials.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance
- Assesses and carries out routine maintenance needs
- Installs and repairs drywall as needed
- Carries out general plumbing and electrical repairs
- Performs electrical system diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Responds to, rectifies, and / or contains after-hours property emergencies including failures in primary building services plumbing, heating, electrical, building security issues, and fire alarms
- Installs, assembles, and repairs agency furnishings
- Provide detailed parts / material lists for systems furniture moves / adds / changes and building renovations / repairs
- Monitor outside contractors to ensure services provided are of acceptable quality and ensure minimal negative impact on Agency staff
- Works with heating and cooling systems, including diagnostics and adjusting heating and cooling systems as necessary
- Performs door and door hardware repairs relating to safety and security
- Responsible for unlocking and locking assigned building locations each day
- Sets up rooms and equipment as requested for training, meetings, etc.
- Accepts deliveries from outside suppliers and ensures delivery to appropriate users
- Performs routine safety inspections (emergency lights, fire system, personal alarms, etc)
- Carries out non-routine cleaning as requested
- Creates and modifies CAD drawings
- Reads and understands materials such as operating and procedures manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
- Performs mathematical calculations
- Performs seasonal groundskeeping duties (e.g. snow removal)
Courier :
- Provides courier service between offices and in the community
- Ensures daily delivery of mail and supplies to agency offices
- Operates society vehicles in a safe manner and ensures regular vehicle maintenance
Team Building :
- Develops professional working relationships with team members
- Actively participates and engages in supervision on a regular basis
- Actively participates and engages in team and staff meetings, training sessions, and other meetings / sessions as required
- Supports the team and works with team members to ensure department needs are met
Other Related Activities :
- Ensures own expenditures adhere to policies
- Strives to meet or exceed all accountabilities and achieve continuous quality improvement and excellence in all activities and outcomes
- Participates in mandatory learning / education to maintain and update skills and knowledge as required
- Assists in the training and orientation of peers
- Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and the regulations
- Performs other duties as required
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Previous working experience in the field of property maintenance or construction industry, preferably with a carpentry background
- Demonstrated experience and competence with various power and hand tools
- Working knowledge and demonstrated ability in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting skills
- Knowledge of HVAC systems required
- Valid G Driver’s License and access to a reliable motor vehicle with appropriate liability insurance required
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Ability to use MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Working knowledge of CSA standards, building and fire codes, and legislative requirements
- Excellent ability to think analytically with attention to detail in the presence of frequent interruptions
- Solid planning, time-management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
- Solid written, oral communication and interpersonal skills providing constructive, meaningful, and timely interaction with all levels of staff
- Advanced understanding and commitment to quality service and best practice
- Excellent ability to work with and meet tight timelines
- The ability to communicate in French or another language is an asset
EFFORTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS :
- Occasional periods of sitting and computer / phone use
- The incumbent has the freedom to move about or change position at will
- Regularly required to lift and / or carry objects weighing up to 20 lbs and less frequently over 20 lbs.
- May be exposed to disagreeable elements such as chemical / cleaning substances, fumes, noise, etc.
- Required to work both indoors and outdoors
- Multi-tasks within a fast-paced, high-volume and demanding environment
- Frequent interruptions
- Regular travel to FACS sites or within the region
- Occasional travel outside the region may be required
- Occasional requirement to work evening and / or weekend hours
