About the role

Location : ALS Environmental, Waterloo, ON

Shift time : Night (10 PM - 6 AM)

Reports to : Inorganics Manager

This position is responsible for performing preparations, extractions, and analysis on soil and water samples.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Operate lab instrument / equipment such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters etc;
  • Perform instrument / equipment calibration, maintenance, and repair as required;
  • Perform sample preparation filtration, screening, extraction, and digestion;
  • Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc;
  • Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.);
  • Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation;
  • General laboratory clean-up and maintenance;
  • Clean and maintain glassware and lab ware;
  • Assist in sample flow and archiving as well as data archiving;
  • Monitor controlled equipment;
  • Perform all required quality control procedures;
  • Produce all tasks within specific turnaround times (TAT);
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be capable of working with minimal supervision;
  • Must be well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment ;
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Previous Lab experience of at least a year, full training will be provided.

Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and / or repetitive tasks;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • Ability to stand for a full shift;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
