SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the MMR Registered Veterinary Technologist assists the veterinarians with daily routine and non-routine veterinary treatments and procedures, providing emergency care for critical patients, diagnostic imaging, clinical pathology, diagnostic sampling and data collection for any current research being conducted.
MMR RVT’s primarily work remotely from the DVM’s and are responsible for implementing treatment protocols, preparation and administration of medications, record keeping and daily maintenance of the rehabilitation centre.
This role provides training and supervision of volunteers, students, veterinary externs, and education to the public.
Hours : Up to 37.5 / week plus overtime in peak season, with a possibility of hours extending throughout the rest of the year.
There is a possibility of overnights and weekend shifts may be included. Some scheduled after hours, and on-call may be required.
ACCOUNTABILITIES :
- Ensuring that day to day rounds are completed and communicated with team; patient observations, follow up, noting any variations and escalating issues;
- Assisting in routine veterinary procedures including anaesthesia, surgery, treatment, diagnostics, and necropsies;
- Providing veterinary care and feeding of marine mammals, medications, and laboratory procedures; blood collection, physical exams, fluid administration, and wound care;
- Participating in research programs including collection, processing, and storage of samples;
- Preparing prescriptions, dispense and administer medication; quality control;
- Providing education information to the public as required;
- Assisting in supervision and training of volunteers and practicum students
- Providing in-field assessment, capture and transportation of marine mammals;
- Assisting in the preparation of animals for release including tagging and microchipping;
- Assimilating, record and manage data; maintaining detailed administrative records; data entry, reports, phone records etc.;
- Communication with DVM and remote application of medical treatment plans;
- Maintaining organizational safety standards;
- Releasing rehabilitated animals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
Education and Experience
- Veterinary Technologist or Veterinary Technician Diploma / Degree;
- Proof of current registration status with local VT Association;
- Essential knowledge in marine mammal anatomy and physiology;
- Valid Driver’s License required;
- Previous experience with wildlife or marine mammal species preferred.

SALARY RANGE : $24 - $34 PER HOUR
