About the Role

As aClinic Lab Technician (Phlebotomist), you will be responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens, coordinating with external laboratories, managing health documentation, and supporting appointment scheduling and cancellations. You will play a key role in ensuring a seamless, safe, and patientcentred clinical experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Phlebotomy Services & Patient Care
- Perform venipuncture proficiently to collect blood samples.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during sample collection, following all clinic protocols and procedures.
- Respond to patient questions and concerns, providing clear information on procedures and postcollection care.
Regulatory Compliance
- Adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements and guidelines related to blood collection, handling, and documentation.
- Accurately label and document specimens in accordance with clinic and external laboratory protocols.
- Stay informed of regulatory updates and ensure procedures align with current standards.
Communication & Coordination with External Laboratories
- Communicate effectively with external laboratories to ensure timely processing and reporting of results.
- Coordinate specimen pickup and delivery with couriers and laboratory partners.
- Follow up on delayed or missing test results to ensure continuity of patient care.
Health Documentation Management
- Maintain accurate, uptodate patient records and laboratory requisitions.
- Ensure all health documentation is securely stored and compliant with applicable privacy and health regulations.
- Manage electronic filing of test results and communicate findings to appropriate healthcare professionals as required.
Appointment & Cancellation Management
- Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and manage patient appointments for phlebotomy services.
- Handle cancellations efficiently, minimizing disruption and patient inconvenience.
- Communicate appointment changes or delays clearly and professionally to patients.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 1 year of handson phlebotomy experience in a clinic or outpatient setting (required).
- 3+ years of phlebotomy experience considered a strong asset.
- Completion of a college certificate program in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patientcentred care.
- Excellent communication skills with patients, clinic staff, and external partners.
- Ability to proactively manage scheduling, specimen handling, and workflow challenges.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team.
