DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
Position Status : 100% Term Assignment to December 31, 2026
Hours of Work : Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
Affiliation : Union Exempt
Salary range : $96,796 to $113,920 per annum (Level 7)
Job Summary
Reporting to the Team Manager for Application Development, the Database Administrator administers the Board's Database Management Systems (DBS) and corporate applications environments to ensure security and availability to approved users. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, installing, maintaining, tuning and backing up system databases; installing, maintaining and troubleshooting corporate applications; and assisting the development team in designing, creating and supporting custom web-based applications.
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree in computer science, computer engineering or information technology and 6 years of experience in database administration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Experience working in software development is considered an asset.
Strong information technology foundation in database structure, configuration, installation and practice.
Knowledge and experience in major relational database languages and applications.
Knowledge of the District’s student information, finance and payroll systems is highly desirable; as well as knowledge of current operating systems including security and web server platforms and business systems in hybrid environments.
Experience building and maintaining current relational database environments.
Analytical and problem-solving skills required for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with systems and applications.
Attention to detail and accuracy of work is essential.
Customer service skills with the ability to use tact, diplomacy and discretion.
Interpersonal and communication skills required in order to respond to inquiries and requests from internal clients; as well as clarify information regarding database functionality and updates, and provide other information to support users.
Organizational skills, including time management techniques for juggling multiple priorities and deadlines; working under short timelines and ability to reprioritize when emergencies arise.
Project management skills required when supporting in the design, installation,implementation and updates to new or existing systems / databases.
Ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
Tech savvy in order to maintain, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with databases and related applications.
