Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator .

This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

The project seeks to create a national network and a centre to build capacity and mobilize knowledge on Black children and youth in Canada.

The Research Coordinator will work closely with faculty, students, policymakers, and service providers across Canada who are working on addressing the needs of Black children and youth.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to) :

Leadership

Work in collaboration with the PI to formulate and develop a strategic research plan, including contributing to funding strategies, identifying funding opportunities, and facilitating innovative activities that align with the strategic plan

Make recommendations on the development of the full project lifecycle, including study design, recruitment, consent, ethics, and study execution

Provide primary support to the PIs by identifying key strategic and governance issues

Lead the day-to-day operational aspects of a large program, including facilitating communication between the Project Director, research team members, stakeholders, research assistants, and trainees

Plan meetings, prepare reports and papers, and ensure PIs' decisions and requests are addressed and implemented

Coordinate the establishment of a centre related to Black family well-being

Provide mentorship for research assistants and trainees (undergraduate, graduate) in performing research tasks

Coordinate a mentorship program for Black early career researchers and youths

Coordinate conferences, speaker series, and team meetings

Research Coordination Management

Set up operations and maintain strategies for the research studies / projects, including managing project timelines and facilitate all contracts and agreements

Consult with faculty, PIs, post-doctoral fellows, and research project staff to provide guidance on relevant research principles and best practices

Complete ethics approval at multiple sites

Support the preparation of written material, such as grant applications, project updates, interim / final reports to funding agencies, publications, presentations, and proposals

Monitor project budget and timeline

Prepare and process funding agreements and transfers

Track progress indicators, manage quality improvement, and perform qualitative evaluation (internal audits)

Qualifications / Requirements :

Master's degree or higher in Social Sciences, Education, or a related field

Minimum 3 years of experience coordinating research projects

Minimum 3 years of experience coordinating or conducting research with Black communities

Minimum 3 years of experience working with multi-site research programs across Canada

In-depth knowledge of critical research approaches and theories

In-depth knowledge of participatory action research, critical race theory, and intersectionality

Advanced skills in managing multiple priorities

Ability to motivate, inspire, and build confidence in others to achieve common goals

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Strong and effective organizational and interpersonal skills

Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective collaborative working relationships within a team environment, and with internal and external stakeholders

Experience supporting or coordinating mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, especially from Black communities

Strong Computer Skills : Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Zoom, and related

Ability to work at a high level of accuracy and pay close attention to detail
