Job description

About the role

We're looking for a practical, approachable HR Adviser to join our HR team and provide day-to-day HR support to managers across the business.

You'll be the first point of contact for managers, providing trusted, practical advice and helping them confidently navigate day-to-day people matters and employee relations processes.

Alongside your advisory work, you'll also play an active role in end-to-end recruitment, helping our stores attract and appoint great people.

Working as part of a supportive HR team, this is a busy, varied role where you'll make a real difference through sound advice, practical solutions and a willingness to roll up your sleeves in a fast-paced retail environment.

About the company

Briscoes Homeware and Rebel Sport are two of New Zealand’s most recognised retail brands. As an NZX-listed company and one of the country’s leading retailers, Briscoe Group is entering an exciting period of growth and transformation.

We’re proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer, a Platinum Partner of First Foundation, and a supporter of Cure Kids.

Key responsibilities will include

  • Provide timely, practical HR advice to managers on employee relations matters, including performance, conduct, attendance and the application of employment agreements and policies.
  • Guide and support managers through investigations, disciplinary and other formal employment processes, ensuring good faith, fair process and accurate documentation.
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment, including high-volume and seasonal hiring, ensuring a positive candidate and manager experience.
  • Help managers build confidence in handling everyday people matters, including having early and effective conversations with their teams.
  • Work closely with HR, Payroll and operational teams to ensure accurate information, consistent processes and effective HR support.
  • Contribute to improvements in HR processes, policies, systems and documentation.
  • Support health and safety initiatives and promote safe work practices.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Generalist HR experience, including employee relations advice and support.
  • Strong end-to-end recruitment experience, ideally in a fast-paced or high-volume environment.
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and fair employment processes.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
  • Good judgement, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A practical, approachable and adaptable style, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves.

Position closes: 4:00pm, 17 November 2026

You must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold New Zealand Permanent Residency or Citizenship. All applications will be treated with strictest confidentiality.
