Who we need
Reporting to the CFO, we are hiring a Financial Controller to lead the day-to-day finance and accounting function in Winnipeg and help build the financial infrastructure for Genuine Comfort’s next stage of growth. As our new Financial Controller, you will bring strong accounting judgment, hands-on leadership, and a process improvement mindset to a growing business preparing for greater complexity across Canada and the U.S. You will lead and mentor a developing finance team, challenge legacy processes, built for an earlier stage of the business, guide accounting decisions through an upcoming ERP implementation, and strengthen the reporting, controls, and financial discipline needed to support organic and acquisition-driven growth.
This is a full-time, in-office role based at our Winnipeg office at 377 Henderson Highway. You will work on site five days per week.
What’s in it for you
Make an impact. Genuine Comfort is building the financial infrastructure to support its next stage of scale across Canada and the U.S. You will own the controllership function, strengthen financial discipline, and help build the reporting, controls, and operating cadence needed to support a business preparing for significant organic and acquisition-driven growth. This is an opportunity to step into broader ownership while staying close enough to the details to directly influence how the finance function matures.
Drive change. The business has outgrown processes designed for a smaller, less complex organization. As Genuine Comfort moves toward a new ERP and a more integrated Canada-U.S. operating model, you will influence key finance decisions that shape how transactions flow, how data is captured, how controls are embedded, and how leaders access timely, reliable financial insight. You will help bring structure without overengineering, applying what you have learned in more complex environments in a way that fits a growing mid-sized business.
Grow a team. You will lead and elevate a developing finance team, bringing the structure, mentorship, and accounting depth needed to raise capability across the function. Your leadership will help the team move from task execution to stronger ownership, while giving the business greater confidence in its numbers, processes, and readiness to scale. As the local finance leader in Winnipeg, you will create the clarity, consistency, and day-to-day guidance the team needs as the company moves through ERP change and acquisition-driven growth.
What you will do:
- Lead accounting operations. You will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and on time. You will lead month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and controls, ensuring the business has reliable financial information to support decisions.
- Elevate the team. You will manage, support, and mentor a small finance and accounting team that is eager to learn and ready for stronger structure. You will coach, answer questions, strengthen accounting knowledge, and help build a team environment grounded in clarity, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Challenge legacy processes. You will review current accounting, AP, AR, reporting, and control processes to understand what works, what creates manual effort, and what needs to change as the company grows. You will ask thoughtful questions, identify practical improvements, and help redesign processes to be more accurate, scalable, and efficient.
- Guide ERP decisions. You will play a key role in the planned ERP implementation, bringing a strong accounting lens to system and workflow decisions. You will help ensure financial data, transaction flows, controls, reporting, and process design support the business today and as it grows.
- Strengthen financial insight. You will improve the quality, consistency, and accessibility of financial reporting, helping leaders understand performance, cash flow, margins, and operational results. You will support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and analysis, translating financial information into clear insight that supports stronger business decisions.
- Support scalable growth. You will help build the finance foundation needed to integrate future growth as we continue to grow through acquisitions and organic expansion. You will support new entities, evolving processes, and increasing reporting complexity with sound accounting judgment, strong controls, and a practical understanding of how finance needs to scale.
What you bring:
- The right level of ownership. You are comfortable in a small to mid-sized environment where strong judgment, hands-on execution, and practical leadership matter more than layers of process. You have seen what stronger financial processes, controls, and reporting can look like in a more complex business, and you can apply that knowledge pragmatically in a growing mid-sized company. You know how to bring structure without overengineering.
- The accounting depth. You may be an Accounting Manager, Controller, or finance professional with increasing scope who wants more ownership, visibility, and the opportunity to shape a finance function through ERP change, process improvement, and acquisition-driven growth. You are a CPA with strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to understand how transactions flow through the financial statements. You can assess the accounting impact of process and system decisions, ask thoughtful questions, and ensure financial information is accurate, reliable, and useful. You may bring a blend of public accounting and industry experience, with a track record of earning greater scope, trust, and responsibility over time.
- The controllership experience. You have built your accounting foundation through increasingly complex work and have moved into roles where you own outcomes, not just tasks. You have experience overseeing accounting operations, month-end close, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and financial controls. You understand what a strong finance function needs to operate well and can balance hands-on execution with team leadership.
- The business exposure. You have worked in an operating company and understand the realities of supporting a growing business from the inside. Exposure to distribution, manufacturing, product-based, inventory-driven, or similarly operational environments would be valuable. You may bring a blend of public accounting and industry experience, with a track record of earning greater scope, trust, and responsibility over time.
- The process mindset. You are comfortable stepping into processes that have been in place for years and asking how they can work better. You can understand the current state, identify gaps, respectfully challenge assumptions, and introduce improvements that support accuracy, efficiency, controls, and scale.
- The leadership approach. You know how to guide and develop team members who are still building their confidence and capability. You are approachable, clear, and supportive, while also setting expectations and creating accountability. You can help people understand not just what needs to be done, but why it matters.
