Job description

We are seeking a talented Junior UI/UX Developer for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a hybrid user experience design and front-end development capacity, specializing in translating approved wireframes, mockups, and design systems into production-ready, accessible, and responsive digital web applications.

As a Junior UI/UX Developer, you will bridge the gap between creative visual design, enterprise content management frameworks, and real-time data integration. Operating within a hybrid work model in Toronto, you will build and extend reusable UI components, implement real-time data feeds (such as service alerts and schedules), and ensure all web interfaces strictly comply with digital accessibility standards. This position is tailored for an adaptable front-end specialist with hands-on experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Sitecore who can design across diverse form factors—from mobile screens to large-format displays.

Location: Toronto, ON

Assignment Type: Hybrid (2–3 days per week onsite)

Contract Duration: 12-month contract

Advantages
High-Visibility Digital Impact: Build customer-facing web applications, responsive sites, and large-format displays seen by thousands daily.

Modern Front-End & CMS Stack: Work with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Figma, and Sitecore CMS.

Real-Time Data Integration: Connect front-end interfaces with live data feeds, GTFS-RT APIs, and dynamic service alert engines.

Accessibility-First Engineering: Master WCAG 2.0 Level AA, AODA compliance, ARIA attributes, and screen-reader optimizations.

Responsibilities
Translate vendor wireframes, mockups, and design recommendations into production-ready, accessible front-end code within an enterprise Sitecore CMS.

Review Discovery and Definition deliverables for technical feasibility and participate in handoff and implementation planning.

Build and extend reusable UI components within the established design system to ensure consistent branding, navigation, and visual styling.

Integrate front-end web interfaces with real-time data feeds, scheduling engines, service alert APIs, and trip planning features.

Design and develop responsive web applications for various form factors, including mobile devices, kiosks, and large-format display screens using real-time GTFS-RT data.

Ensure all implemented web pages, components, and interactive tools strictly conform to AODA and WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility requirements.

Optimize front-end performance targets and page load budgets across multiple browsers, operating systems, and device types.

Collaborate closely with product managers, backend developers, QA specialists, and business leads in an Agile delivery environment.

Conduct usability, accessibility, cross-browser, and device performance testing, logging and resolving defects promptly.

Develop design documentation, component libraries, and technical specifications, providing knowledge transfer to internal team members.

Qualifications
Core Technical & UX/UI Requirements
Education: University degree or college diploma in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Front-End Development Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a UI/UX Developer or Front-End Developer building customer-facing responsive web applications.

Core Technical Stack: Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks (React).

Enterprise CMS Integration: Demonstrated experience implementing front-end design components within an enterprise Content Management System (Sitecore preferred).

Digital Accessibility Mastery: Proven experience building WCAG 2.0 Level AA and AODA compliant interfaces (including ARIA syntax, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader compatibility).

Design Systems & Prototyping: Experience using Figma, component libraries, design tokens, and building responsive layouts across diverse screen sizes and form factors.

API Integration: Hands-on experience connecting front-end components to real-time APIs, managing loading states, stale data, and error handling.

Preferred Assets & Specialized Skills
CMS & Digital Displays: Hands-on Sitecore CMS development experience (templates, components) or exposure to digital signage and passenger information systems.

Testing & Tools: Familiarity with Git, front-end build pipelines, usability testing, and motion design/micro-interactions.

Design Certifications: UX certifications (e.g., NN/g) or related front-end design designations are considered strong assets.

Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes
Analytical Problem Solving: Superior diagnostic skills to troubleshoot layout rendering issues, performance bottlenecks, and accessibility defects.

Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate and rationalize design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
