Lead Complex Payments Technology in a Global Capital Markets Environment

Are you a senior Technical Project Manager who understands that successful payment technology delivery takes more than managing timelines and status reports?

We’re looking for an experienced project leader with a strong background in banking, payments and capital markets to lead complex technology initiatives within a global markets environment.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of projects from planning and design through testing, implementation, stabilization and transition to business-as-usual, working with stakeholders across technology, business, operations, risk, compliance and external vendors.



Location Requirement

Candidates must be located within the Greater Toronto Area and able to work onsite in Toronto 1–2 days per week.

Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
Own end-to-end project delivery, including scope, milestones, dependencies, resources, risks and budgets
Lead complex payments technology and ISO 20022 initiatives
Establish strong project governance, reporting and decision-making processes
Manage risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies and change control
Coordinate delivery across technology, business, operations, architecture, testing, security and control teams
Work with architects and engineering teams to understand system interfaces, integrations and technical dependencies
Coordinate payment technology changes involving platforms, APIs, messaging, reconciliation and third-party providers
Lead testing strategy and execution, including integration, end-to-end, performance, resilience, security and UAT
Coordinate test environments, payment data, defects and business sign-off
Lead implementation, cutover, rollback, contingency and communications planning
Drive post-implementation activities, hypercare and transition into BAU support
Manage vendor relationships, deliverables, milestones, risks and dependencies
Translate complex technical information into clear business impacts, options and recommendations
Coordinate global teams and stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones

Qualifications
Payments & Capital Markets Expertise

This role requires meaningful payments and financial services experience. You should be comfortable discussing payment flows, messaging, clearing, settlement and the technology supporting capital markets transactions.

Experience with the following is highly valuable:

ISO 20022
SWIFT messaging
MT message types, including MT103, MT202 and MT9 series
Payment processing
Clearing and settlement
Payment testing and implementation
Payment transformation or modernization
Capital markets applications
Foreign exchange (FX)
Equities
Derivatives
Reconciliation
Payment investigations, exceptions, returns and repairs
Domestic and/or cross-border payments

You’ll be working within a complex enterprise environment supporting an internally developed application that consolidates payments from front-office capital markets applications and interacts with major technology and payment providers.

What You Bring
10+ years of project management experience
Strong technical project management background
Significant experience within banking, financial services, payments and/or capital markets
Proven experience delivering complex technology implementations
Strong understanding of project governance, risks, issues and dependencies
Experience coordinating cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority
Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills
Experience managing testing, implementation and post-production stabilization
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple workstreams across global teams and time zones
Strong understanding of ISO 20022 and/or SWIFT messaging
Comfortable working with complex payment technology and capital markets applications


Summary

You’re more than a project manager — you understand the business and technology of payments.

You can walk into a conversation with developers and architects and understand the technical dependencies, then turn around and explain the business impact to senior stakeholders. You know how payment messages, clearing, settlement, testing and operational readiness fit together, and you’re comfortable driving delivery across teams that don’t report directly to you.
