Le Syndicat étudiant de l’Université d’Ottawa (SÉUO) est une association à but non lucratif qui représente 37 000 étudiant·e·s de premier cycle de l’Université d’Ottawa.

S’appuyant sur des leaders étudiant·e·s élu·e·s et son personnel dévoué, le SÉUO s’efforce de porter la voix des étudiant·e·s, de défendre leurs droits et de proposer des programmes de qualité qui enrichissent la vie sur le campus.

Sous la responsabilité du ou de la directeur·trice général·e, le ou la directeur·trice des finances supervise toutes les fonctions financières, en veillant au respect des objectifs de l’organisation, à l’application des meilleures pratiques financières et à la santé financière du SÉUO. Iel conduit des changements transformateurs afin de moderniser et d’améliorer les systèmes et processus financiers de l’organisation. Iel dirige, accompagne et encadre un personnel dévoué, en supervisant les opérations financières quotidiennes, la planification financière, la budgétisation, les prévisions, les comptes créditeurs, la paie, la création de rapports et la conformité. Le ou la directeur·trice des finances incarne et maintient également un leadership inclusif tout en encourageant la responsabilité et la productivité.

Fonctions et responsabilités

Ressources humaines

  • Participer à la sélection, à l’évaluation et à la promotion du personnel financier;
  • Recommander des modifications aux descriptions de poste et à la structure du
  • personnel du Département des finances;
  • Interpréter les politiques et procédures financières et veiller à leur mise en œuvre par le personnel; et
  • Diriger et encadrer une équipe diversifiée d’employé·e·s syndiqué·e·s tout en favorisant un esprit d’équipe coopératif et impliqué au sein du Département des finances.

Stratégie financière et budget

  • Élaborer et mettre en œuvre des plans financiers stratégiques;
  • Attribuer et gérer les ressources financières, notamment les investissements et les cotisations étudiantes;
  • Superviser les processus budgétaires et contrôler les performances financières, en fournissant rapidement des analyses et des recommandations au ou à la directeur·trice général·e et au Comité exécutif;
  • Préparer et superviser l’élaboration des budgets annuels de l’organisation;
  • Effectuer une analyse mensuelle des rapports budgétaires, examiner les écarts et recommander des mesures correctives, le cas échéant;
  • Superviser l’analyse financière de fin d’année et soutenir la programmation des audits;
  • Effectuer un suivi permanent et établir des prévisions financières afin de maintenir un équilibre financier; et
  • Mettre en œuvre et mettre à jour les politiques et procédures administratives en matière de contrôle interne et de conformité.

Conformité

  • Gérer le respect des exigences réglementaires, des exigences fiscales de l’ARC, des PCGR et des politiques internes; et
  • Diriger le développement des pratiques de contrôle interne, le cas échéant.

Qualifications et compétences

  • Le titre de professionnel·le comptable agréé·e est un atout; et
  • Formation postsecondaire en finance, comptabilité, administration des affaires ou autres études connexes;
  • 5 ans d’expérience ou plus à poste financier;
  • Une expérience préalable en rapports financiers au sein d’une organisation à but non lucratif est souhaitée; et
  • Connaissance des services généraux, des achats, de la gestion des risques et de l’aide à la décision;
  • Excellentes relations interpersonnelles et communication;
  • Solides capacités de gestion et de leadership; et
  • Le bilinguisme est obligatoire.

The University of Ottawa Student Union (UOSU) is an on-campus non-profit representing 37,000 undergraduate students at the University of Ottawa. Together with elected student leaders and dedicated staff the UOSU works to strengthen student voices, advocate for student rights, and provide valuable programming that enriches campus life.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance will oversee all finance functions; ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, financial best practices, and the financial health of the UOSU. You will lead transformative changes to modernize and improve the organization’s financial systems and processes.

You will also lead, coach, and mentor a dedicated team of staff, overseeing daily finance operations, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounts payable, payroll,reporting and compliance. Further, as the Director of Finance, you will embody and uphold inclusive leadership while fostering accountability and productivity.

Duties & Responsibilities

Human Resources

  • Participate in the selection, evaluation, and promotion of finance staff;
  • Recommend changes to job descriptions and staff structure in the finance department;
  • Interpret financial policies and procedures, ensuring implementation by staff; and
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of unionized employees while fostering acooperative and engaged team culture within the finance department.

Financial Strategy & Budget

  • Develop and implement strategic financial plans;
  • Guide and manage financial resources, including investments and student levies;
  • Oversee budgeting processes and monitor financial performance, providing timely analysis and recommendations to the Executive Director and the Executive Committee;
  • Prepare and supervise the development of annual budgets for the organization; and
  • Conduct monthly analysis of budget reports, addressing variances and recommending corrective action as required;
  • Oversee year-end financial analysis and support schedules for auditors;
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and financial forecasts to ensure a balanced financial result; and
  • Implement and maintain administrative policies and procedures for internal control and compliance.

Compliance

  • Accountable for compliance with regulatory requirements, CRA tax requirements, GAAP accounting standards, and internal policies;
  • Lead development of internal control practices where necessar.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation an asse;
  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, orother related studies;
  • 5+ years of experience in a financial role;
  • Previous financial reporting experience in a non-profit organization is preferred; and
  • Knowledge of corporate services, procurement, risk management, and decision support
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong managerial and leadership abilities; and
  • Bilingualism is a requirement.
