It is less about managing a large team and more about owning strengthening and modernizing the end-to-end property accounting process across a defined portfolio. You will oversee a small team but your primary impact will come from building discipline improving workflows optimizing systems and ensuring reporting integrity in a high-volume addition to the duties typically expected of an accounting professional responsibilities will include:Property Accounting OwnershipYou will own the full cycle accounting process for an assigned portfolio of properties ensuring accuracy consistency and monthly quarterly and annual close processes across multiple assetsReview journal entries related to operations capital activity and renovationsOversee bank and general ledger reconciliations and ensure proper supporting documentationDeliver complete and accurate financial statements with clear variance analysisMaintain schedules for recoveries property taxes utilities and capital expendituresEnsure transactions align with lease terms internal controls and accounting policiesProcess Design and Control DisciplineStandardize close timelines and deliverables across propertiesIdentify inefficiencies recurring errors or control gaps and implement practical improvementsStrengthen documentation and create repeatable scalable workflowsEnsure audit readiness through organized working papers and reconciliationsReduce reliance on manual work by redesigning processes for clarity and accountabilityTechnology and System OptimizationMaximize Yardi functionality to enhance reporting accuracy and workflow efficiencyImprove system configuration and reporting outputs to reduce manual adjustmentsIntroduce automation where appropriate to streamline reconciliations and recurring entriesSupport system enhancements and integration of newly acquired propertiesDevelop clearer reporting tools and dashboards to track close progress and portfolio performanceTeam OversightProvide direction on priorities and review work for accuracy and completenessEnsure timelines and documentation standards are consistently metSupport skill development related to systems controls and technical accountingCreate clarity around roles and accountability within the close processOperational PartnershipWork closely with property management to explain financial results and resolve discrepanciesProvide structured financial insight into operating and capital activitySupport portfolio transitions and acquisition integration from an accounting perspectiveQualificationsBachelors degree in accounting finance or a related fieldCPA designation preferredFive or more years of progressive accounting experience with strong preference for direct property accounting or real estate portfolio experienceDemonstrated experience managing full cycle accounting for multiple properties or entitiesStrong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of internal controlsAdvanced proficiency with Yardi; experience optimizing modules and improving reporting workflows strongly preferredProven ability to redesign and strengthen accounting processesHigh attention to detail with a disciplined structured approach to executionAbility to operate effectively in a fast paced growth oriented organizationBilingualism in English and French is preferredMost importantly we are a small yet mighty team. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including skills experience educational attainment professional designations internal equity and other job-related requirements.
