Acting as a critical bridge between strategic asset management and field operations, this role ensures that asset lifecycle decisions—from renewal projects to planned maintenance—are practical, data-driven, and aligned with Asset Management objectives. The Asset Management Engineer provides essential, real-time technical support to operations staff, ensuring maintenance activities and emergency responses are executed safely,

  • Develop and optimize lifecycle management strategies for distribution, station and metering assets, utilizing performance data to accurately forecast replacement needs and prevent failures.

  • Design and oversee rigorous testing, inspection, and maintenance programs, ensuring practicality for field execution and effectiveness in capturing critical asset health data to perform asset condition assessments.

  • Serve as the primary technical partner for field operations, collaborating to investigate system deficiencies, troubleshoot equipment failures in real-time, and implement corrective actions.

  • Lead collaborative root cause analyses for asset failures, gathering field insights to formulate actionable recommendations that prevent recurrence and enhance system safety and reliability.

  • Interpret complex inspection results and special reports for field staff, translating data into clear, actionable operational directives.

  • Prepare and maintain precise equipment work orders for high-risk or failed assets to ensure field teams have clear and accurate documentation to appropriately record and execute urgent repairs or replacements.

  • Conduct rigorous data-driven assessments of maintenance elements, including materials, equipment and operating techniques, to provide field-ready recommendations that improve asset and operational efficiency and safety.

  • Contribute strategic input to the Distribution System Plan and annual capital planning regarding asset replacement timing and financial justification of maintenance investments.

  • Analyze asset performance data to identify trends, and forecast replacement and refurbishment needs to maintain the integrity of asset records required for long-term performance management.

  • Identify and facilitate the adoption of new monitoring and equipment maintenance technologies, ensuring seamless integration into daily field operations.

  • Manage the meter reverification plans, including sample and due meter programs, and wholesale metering registrations with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), to ensure full compliance with Measurement Canada and industry regulations.

  • Contribute to ISO 9001 compliance by supporting the Quality Management System and related audits.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of engineering standards, policies and guidelines to ensure organizational consistency and safety.

  • Represent Hydro Ottawa in external working groups and conferences and provide technical input on directives or regulatory reviews, including those from the Ontario Energy Board, Electricity Distributors Association, and IESO.
