The Department of Medicine and the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) and The Ottawa Hospital are seeking two skilled Hospitalist Physicians (1 FTE & 0.5FTE) to work with us to provide the best possible care for our patients.
The successful applicant would join a group of 49 cardiologists, and 4 other hospitalists, at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI), Canada’s largest and foremost heart health centre. UOHI provides tertiary and quaternary cardiovascular care to patients from 16 hospitals in Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut and across Canada. UOHI employs more than 1, healthcare professionals and supports more than , patient encounters annually.
In addition to state-of-the-art catheterization and electrophysiology labs, a dedicated cardiac imaging facility with PET, MRI, CT, SPECT and echocardiography imaging, core facilities include 96 inpatient ward beds, an intensive cardiac care unit (ICCU) with 14 beds, an intensive cardiac surgery unit (CSICU) with 27 beds, a Day Unit with 36 beds, a Reference Centre with 11 beds and a Structural Procedure Unit of 6 beds.
The Division is renowned for delivery of outstanding cardiac care, excellence in education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels (recognized as a leading training program in Canada and internationally) and recognized internationally for its research in particular in electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, STEMI/ACS coronary intervention, valvular disease, cardiac transplantation and pulmonary hypertension programs among others as well as strength in heart failure and structural interventions.

The Ottawa Hospital is a -bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute, and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside). The hospital provides approximately 67, inpatient admissions, , emergency visits and one million ambulatory care visits annually.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday from 8am-5pm on the UOHI inpatient wards (not in the ICCU). There is NO ON-CALL and NO EXPECTATION OF WEEKEND OR EVENING COVERAGE. As a Hospitalist Physician at UOHI, you will round on patients daily along with the attending cardiologist (who is the MRP) and provide orders and advice to nursing staff regarding the ongoing care of these patients. You will provide direct care to patients with internal medicine conditions and manage and coordinate along with the MRP, the care plans for patients.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in quality improvement initiatives and other academic activities although all of these are optional.
Qualifications
Candidates must have an MD degree from an accredited medical school. The successful candidate will possess or be eligible for an Ontario license, have very good interpersonal and clinical skills, and be committed to patient-centered care.
The successful candidate must be eligible to hold an academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or higher at the University of Ottawa within the Department of Medicine; be a member of or be eligible for membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association; and ideally, have experience teaching medical students and residents.
The ideal candidate will have very good interpersonal and clinical skills, and be committed to patient-centered care.
