Since 1988, Pozitive Pathways, a registered charity, has evolved and diversified to address the emerging needs of our community. Our staff, peers, and volunteers provide in-reach and out-reach services to clients and service users through our Support Services and Needle Syringe Programs. Additionally, we provide education and resources to community members and service providers working with populations that are most vulnerable to HIV and HCV transmission.

About the Role:

The Harm Reduction Support Worker contributes to the program’s goals of reducing the incidence of Hepatitis C (HCV) and HIV transmission among Person’s who Use Drugs (PUDs). This is a part-time position (21 hours per week) and the execution of work is within Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

Responsibilities:

• Work as a member of the Harm Reduction department to implement the annual workplan and budget in line with the organization’s strategic plan and provincial Harm Reduction objectives.
• Distribute harm reduction supplies, pre-packaged kits and associated paraphernalia to service users accessing PPCS in-centre Needle Syringe Program (NSP) and during outreach at H4.
• Driver for mobile delivery services which includes packaging and drop-off of pre-ordered harm reduction supplies to service users and satellite sites in Chatham-Kent.
• Ensure that the Peer Packers are paid after each shift.
• Assist with creating kits and organizing supplies for distribution in the PPCS in-centre NSP.
• Accept used supplies and ensure storage within safe sharps disposal bins.
• Provide naloxone training and distribute kits/refills to NSP service users.
• Maintain consistency and accuracy when tracking service user statistics as required by all funders using Neo 360.
• Provide one-on-one education to PUDs regarding the proper use of supplies, disposal and various substances.
• Refer PUDs seeking services over and above those offered through the NSP to local community resources.
• Adhere to current Pozitive Pathways policies and procedures.
• Participate as an active member at all department and organization staff meetings (schedule permitting).
• Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Programs & Services or designate.

Requirements:

• Minimum 1–2 years’ experience working in harm reduction, outreach, addictions, public health, or community-based social services.
• Knowledge of commonly used illicit substances and their associated risks, trends, and harm reduction strategies.
• Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners and service providers.
