The Director, Business Development, is responsible for building relationships with key Canadian exporters and suppliers for assigned sectors. This position will focus primarily in the Aerospace Sector. The director develops a deep understanding of Canadian capabilities and works in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to close international business deals for major international projects.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide market expertise and sectoral insights, seek out areas of innovation; set vision and provides strategic direction for CCC’s services and other business growth opportunities for assigned sector and designated region to increase Canadian market share
  • Utilize breadth and depth of subject matter expertise, gather, and manage sector market intelligence, work with Canadian businesses for exporter activity with international buyers, and develop and maintain relationships in order to sign contracts
  • Collaborate with and oversee project/pursuit team members for specific relationships and specific projects with attention to risk mitigation and deal closure and articulate CCC’s role, process, capabilities, challenges, and limitations
  • Direct identification, prospecting, and qualification criteria and collaborate with internal stakeholders for Canadian export sales opportunities in selected international markets within gated business development process
  • Report on prospective projects, provide sector/region activity and event reports, feed analysis, and prepare content for submissions to internal and external stakeholders e.g., Risk and Opportunity Committee (ROC), Senior Management Committee (SMC), Board of Directors and/or additional submissions to the government ministers
  • Travel domestically and internationally, develop and maintain effective business relationships; meet with a range of external decision-making and industry stakeholders, present opportunities and value proposition to support international contracts; and update and maintain customer relationships management database
  • Engage strategically within the Portfolio of the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, including with EDC, the Trade Commissioner Service and with ISED in support of Canadian exporters

What you’ll bring to CCC

  • Completion of university degree in finance, economics, commerce, business administration, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of previous experience in progressive business development roles
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in leadership and management practices including strategic and operational planning, performance, project, and change management, and information management and information technology activities
  • Knowledge of issues, trends, best practices, and challenges related to risk management, financial planning, business development, business and government relations, procurement, and results-based outcomes
  • Knowledge of relevant economic, political, legal, cultural, and social contexts of partners and stakeholders
  • Bilingualism (C-C-C) in both Official Languages is imperative

Le directeur, développement des affaires est chargé de tisser des relations avec les principaux exportateurs et fournisseurs canadiens pour le secteur qui lui est attribué. Ce que vous ferez

  • Fournir une expertise du marché et des perspectives sectorielles, et rechercher des domaines d’innovation. Définir une vision et fournir une orientation stratégique pour les services de la CCC ainsi que d’autres occasions de croissance commerciale pour le secteur attribué et la région désignée afin d’augmenter la part de marché canadienne.
  • Mettre à profit son expertise approfondie en la matière, recueillir et gérer l’information sur les marchés du secteur, accompagner des entreprises canadiennes dans leurs activités d’exportation auprès d’acheteurs internationaux, et développer et entretenir des relations afin de conclure des contrats.
  • Collaborer avec les membres des équipes de projet et de développement des perspectives commerciales et les superviser dans le cadre de relations et de projets précis, en mettant l’accent sur l’atténuation des risques et la conclusion d’accords. Expliquer clairement le rôle, les processus, les capacités, les défis et les limites de la CCC.
  • Diriger l’identification, la prospection et la définition de critères de qualification, et collaborer avec les intervenants internes afin de trouver des occasions de vente à l’exportation pour le Canada sur des marchés internationaux ciblés, dans le cadre d’un processus de développement des affaires structuré par étapes.
  • Rédiger des rapports sur les projets potentiels, fournir des rapports d’activités et d’événements par secteur ou par région, alimenter des analyses et préparer le contenu à soumettre à des intervenants internes et externes, comme le Comité du risque et des occasions d’affaires, le Comité de haute direction ou le conseil d’administration, et remettre d’autres soumissions aux ministres du gouvernement.
  • Voyager au pays et à l’international, développer et entretenir des relations d’affaires efficaces. Rencontrer divers décideurs et intervenants externes de l’industrie, présenter des occasions d’affaires et une proposition de valeur afin de soutenir la conclusion de contrats internationaux. Assurer la mise à jour de la base de données de gestion des relations avec les clients.
  • S’investir stratégiquement au sein du portefeuille de la ministre de la Petite Entreprise, de la Promotion des exportations et du Commerce international, notamment auprès d’Exportation et développement Canada, du Service des délégués commerciaux et d’Innovation, Sciences et Développement économique Canada, afin de soutenir les exportateurs canadiens.

Ce que vous apportez à la CCC

  • Diplôme universitaire dans le domaine de la finance, de l’économie, du commerce, de l’administration des affaires ou de l’ingénierie, ou dans une discipline connexe.
  • Au moins dix ans d’expérience antérieure dans des rôles à responsabilités croissantes dans le développement des affaires.
  • Connaissances, compétences et expérience en leadership et en gestion, notamment dans la planification stratégique et opérationnelle, le rendement, la gestion des projets et du changement, ainsi que la gestion de l’information et les activités liées aux technologies de l’information.
  • Connaissance des enjeux, des tendances, des meilleures pratiques et des défis liés à la gestion des risques, à la planification financière, au développement des affaires, aux relations commerciales et gouvernementales, à l’approvisionnement, et aux résultats axés sur le rendement.
  • Connaissance des contextes économiques, politiques, juridiques, culturels et sociaux pertinents des partenaires et des intervenants.
  • La maîtrise des deux langues officielles (C-C-C) est impérative.
