Senior Data Engineer

Our client, is seeking an experienced, delivery-focused Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable, highly reliable data solutions.

In this technical consulting role, you will play a key part in modernizing data pipelines, supporting advanced analytics, and shaping data platform architecture. Operating within a cloud-first environment, you will build optimized, reusable ETL/ELT pipelines moving data from diverse enterprise source platforms (including Salesforce) into Google Cloud BigQuery. Implementing Medallion Architecture principles, you will structure data across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers to power downstream analytics and reporting. Working closely with cross-functional analytics and business stakeholders, you will also enforce data governance, establish pipeline observability, and mentor peer engineers.

Duration: 5-Month Contract (with high potential for extension)

Responsibilities
Pipeline Engineering & Medallion Architecture
Ingestion & Integration Strategy: Analyze complex source data structures and define extraction strategies using optimal ingestion patterns (Bulk/REST API, CDC, Pub/Sub, or native connectors).

ETL/ELT Development: Design, build, and deploy optimized, reusable data pipelines to migrate data from enterprise platforms (such as Salesforce) into BigQuery.

Medallion Data Structuring: Organize and structure data in BigQuery following Medallion Architecture standards (Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers) to power downstream analytics.

Microservices & Scripting: Build scalable supporting services and APIs in Python (e.g., FastAPI or Flask) to support data orchestration workflows.

Governance, Monitoring & Knowledge Transfer
Data Observability & Lineage: Implement robust data quality validation checks, pipeline observability, and comprehensive data lineage documentation.

Performance Optimization: Diagnose and resolve data quality issues, pipeline execution failures, and query performance bottlenecks.

Technical Documentation & Handoff: Document architectural decisions, technical workflows, and data pipelines to conduct seamless knowledge transfer to internal teams prior to contract completion.



Qualifications
Data Engineering Experience: 4 to 7 years of hands-on data engineering experience, including direct delivery of production ETL/ELT pipelines.

Cloud Data Warehousing: Direct, hands-on experience integrating enterprise data platforms with cloud data warehouses, with strong preference for Google Cloud BigQuery.

GCP Toolset Expertise: Hands-on proficiency with core GCP services: BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Dataform, Dataplex, and Pub/Sub.

Advanced SQL & Databases: Expert-level SQL skills (including complex query optimization, indexing, and tuning) alongside experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.

Orchestration & Data Frameworks: Experience with orchestration frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow) and batch/streaming processing engines (e.g., Apache Spark or Apache Beam).

Python Development: Hands-on experience building scalable applications or microservices in Python (e.g., FastAPI, Flask).

Data Modeling & Governance: Practical experience with data modeling, data governance practices, and automated data quality frameworks.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical work experience.

Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills; highly autonomous self-starter comfortable managing priorities with minimal oversight.

Preferred Assets & Nice-to-Haves
Prior experience integrating Salesforce data streams into BigQuery or similar cloud data warehouses.

Familiarity with enterprise BI and visualization platforms (Looker, Tableau).

Active Google Cloud Certified — Professional Data Engineer designation.

Experience working within Retail or Fortune 500-scale enterprise environments.
