Job description

Title: Electrical Engineer (Renewable/Power Operations)

Location Preference: North York, ON

Start: ASAP

Duration: 3-6 month assignment to cover a short-term leave period

Work Model: Hybrid - Mon, Tues, Thurs in office / Weds, Fri at home



High Level Description:

We are looking for a highly skilled individual that is experienced with the design and construction of renewable power plants. The candidate will work closely with companies project execution teams to vet designs submitted by contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and standards. During the construction period, the successful candidate will provide technical support to the field teams and assist in acceptance of the commissioning documents provided for turnover. In addition to utilizing their own technical expertise in medium and high voltage electrical systems, the successful candidate will engage and manage internal and external technical subject matter experts, from all disciplines, participating during design, construction and commissioning. The successful candidate must possess superior technical acumen and strong management skills to balance daily priorities. In addition, the candidate must work well within teams with a willingness to share their knowledge with all stakeholders.



Responsibilities:

Ensure the technical requirements of the business unit are incorporated into the design and commissioning of the renewable projects developed and constructed by the companies including attributes related to medium and high voltage systems.

Provide expertise on wind, solar and battery energy storage systems during the development of technical requirement documents, equipment specifications, facility design and turnover activities.

Review technical documents submitted by contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and standards.

Provide guidance for system configuration, equipment selection, and other project design features to ensure compliance with Enbridge technical requirement documents.

Assist development team in the creation of equipment datasheets to be used during equipment procurement.

Participate in technical meetings with contractors and vendors during project development and construction to clarify technical requirements.

Resolve technical issues relating to technical requirement documents, codes and standards during execution.

Liaise with other Enbridge stakeholders to incorporate all necessary stakeholder requirements into the technical requirement documents.

Ensure quality, commissioning and startup attributes including inspection, care and maintenance during storage, documentation, check-out, pre-commissioning, and pre-energization are defined in the technical requirement documents.

Provide technical support during the negotiation of EPC and supply contracts.
Support team members on technical subjects relating to the candidate’s technical expertise.

Execute other assignments and responsibilities as required by Enbridge.


Qualifications:

Engineer with 7+ years of relevant experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of renewable projects including wind, solar and battery energy storage systems.

Expertise in DC and AC electrical systems (distribution to transmission level) and automated control of the power plants is desired.

Experience in transacting with project team during the design of the facilities to ensure that design review activities are completed in a timely manner including gathering input from all participating internal and external technical subject matter experts.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including both written and verbal with stakeholders at all levels.

Ability to read and interpret engineering documents, technical documents, contract documents, supplier documents and installation procedures.

Experience in equipment installation methods and practices, interconnection requirements, grid compliance testing and SCADA system design would be an asset.

Proven knowledge and understanding of the regulatory requirements and industry standards for renewable power generation projects.

Professional designation (e.g., P.Eng or PE) is required.

High computer and technology competency i.e., proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and other Enterprise systems.

Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, prioritizing and delivering on key initiatives.

Highly motivated and result oriented.

Ability to resolve complex issues based on depth and breadth of technical and business knowledge.

Exemplary integrity and teamwork; values the sharing of information and common goals.
