Senior Civil Engineer - Conveyance

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Water team. The role is based in our Ottawa office (hybrid). The Senior Civil Engineer will work on complex projects both independently and as part of a team. You may serve as a lead design engineer, project technical lead, project manager, or a combination of roles, guiding projects to successful outcomes while mentoring junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead high‑complexity projects, interfacing with clients, performing technical design tasks, and serving as Engineer‑of‑Record.
• Oversee and guide work completed by junior and intermediate staff, providing mentorship through review and discussion.
• Provide technical leadership for civil‑related projects and may serve as Engineer‑of‑Record.
• Perform Project Management and/or Project Technical Lead duties, managing project teams and financial performance of project budgets.
• Develop clear work plans, manage scope, schedule, and budget, and proactively identify and manage delivery risk.
• Participate in proposal preparation, including scope development, methodology, and technical review.
• Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and peer projects.

Representative Project Types

• All sizes, scales, and complexities of linear water, sanitary, and storm conveyance; stormwater management; and site civil infrastructure.
• Condition assessment, renewal planning, Class Environmental Assessment, and Master Planning.
• Preliminary and detailed design, tendering, and services during construction.
• Standalone trunk water and sewer conveyance infrastructure by open cut and trenchless methods; local water and sewer infrastructure and renewals.
• Roles within Traditional (Design‑Bid‑Build), Design‑Build, and emerging project delivery structures.

Capabilities and Credentials

• Demonstrated efficient project management and technical leadership of assigned tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
• Understand client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and a commitment to high‑quality deliverables.
• Strong understanding of Ontario municipal, provincial, conservation authority, and federal design standards and permitting processes.
• Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of civil systems, means, and methods, materials, and industry standards.
• Advanced understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
• Strong presentation and communication skills.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
• Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
• Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite is required; proficiency in engineering applications such as AutoCAD and MicroStation is considered an asset.
• Technical expertise and experience to include strong knowledge of means, methods, materials, and industry standards in one or more of the following areas:
  • Trunk linear municipal infrastructure design
  • Condition assessment and rehabilitation of linear municipal infrastructure
  • Site development (servicing and site grading)
  • Stormwater management infrastructure design

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (or able to obtain PEO licensure).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience.

Work Environment

Typical office environment involving extended computer‑based work. Field work may be required periodically and may include exposure to the elements.

Pay Range

• Locations in Lower Mainland – BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario: $114,600.00 – $164,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
